no luck with free expansion packs installation for Rapture!

Got X2. Had the problem with the Rapture install just like some people. Used the registry fix. Got Rapture 1.2.2 installed. The free expansion packs installer does not see Rapture and quits. Found the .zip files. Unzip and move folders as instructions say. Press F5 to refresh, no new files. I noticed that the program files all have Notion 3 icons by the names. How did that happen? Anyone have a fix or can tell me how to find where my files should be? BTW, I also have Rapture le. Could that be a problem?

i suspect that on X2 rapture le and rapture don't play well together.  i ended up deleting all my previous sonar installations (and registry entries) and doing a fresh install.  That cleared up many of the expansion conflict issues i was having

When you say previous installations you are saying to remove the Rapture le versions, Correct? I'm reading your post as removing all Sonar versions, as in 8.5, X1, X1 Expanded.

that's what i did.  I literally wiped my drive of every Sonar related item.  I needed to because i had moved my samples around so much that my registry was all hosed up. Not saying that is your best option since it is very tedious.  I do think having le is somewhat redundant since there is no feature in le that does not exist in the full version.  Since le is a 32-bit product, i suspect the multi-samples install to a different location.  when the expansion pack goes to install it sees two different locations and chooses one.  Maybe try uninstalling the expansion packs and le and then reinstall expansion packs

The program files have the Notion 3 icon because Notion 3 created an association between the file extension .prog and their icon.

I am guessing you were trying to follow the instructions in http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2114782

The expansion pack 1&2 program folders should be  movved to "c:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Rapture\Programs"
The expansion pack 1&2 multisamples folders should be integrated into "c:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Rapture\Multisamples"

It's happening to me on a fresh install. I had ZERO problems with rapture installing. But can't get the packs to install. Does what the OP says.

Same here, too - packs not showing up after F5 refresh in the Rapture browser.

Tried both: 32bit (zips copied to program files (x86)/...), 64bit (zips copied to program files/....)
Full Rapture installed fine (used the recent 1.22 patchfix) and I have LE installed as well.
I opened up a ticket yesterday to see if there's a workaround for X2.

    Technically, yes.
I copied the whole Programs folder from the zip to the Rapture folder so it created C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Rapture\Programs and the 2 expansion pack folders are in there.

Not C:\ProgramData as twigman mentioned since that folder is empty on my machine.

The default location for the Rapture EG, MIDI, Programs, Sample Pool and SG directories is C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Rapture. At least that is where mine was installed (pre X2 Rapture 1.2.2) and it all works for me.

My laptop is the same - no ProgramData folder in C:, just ProgramFiles.

I'm assuming that would not be an issue, since everything (laptop & DAW) is in that "main" folder in C: - Sonar 8.5.3, X2, Sound Forge, Toontrack stuff, Slate Stuff, Alchemy, vst's etc. and they all work fine.

I don't remember switching any target folders during installs, since I typically go with the defaults for the programs/dlls.

In Win 7 C:\ProgramData is a hidden directory and Cakewalk installs a lot of stuff in C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk.

I'll give that a shot and unhide the the folder on the laptop put the stuff in there - no harm in trying that.

    I'm completely confused.

Rapture is installed correctly. The preset additions will not install. Sorry if I'm being thick, but the instructions I see seem to indicate folders being moved but I'm having a terrible time understanding what that means. I am not having the install issues some have had, it's the preset add-ons.

Nothing in the original Rapture installation needs to be moved. If you read the sticky FAQ about installing the Rapture Expansion Packs http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2114782 it is the Expansion Pack data that needs to be manually moved to integrate it into your Rapture 1.2.2 installation. What makes the install a little less straight forward is that part of the process requires you to manually move files into a hidden directory.

I still had the problem for a few days until I discovered that Win 7 is hiding the folder where they neede to go. My fix was this:
Locate the Programs folder, copy, and paste into the Rapture folder.
Open Rapture, click on the Save As Icon to open the hidden folders in Rapture. DO NOT MAXIMIZE THE WINDOW!
While that window is open, go back and right click on the expansion folder you want to move and click copy.
Go back to the open window and right click copy into that location.
Repeat for the next expansion folder.
When all is done, close Rapture. Re-open it, click on the library browser, Press F5 to re-scan and it should show your new programs and folders.
I had to fiddle with this for two days to figure it out but it works. I hope it does for you.
The problem is that when you just use Windows to browse the folders in Rapture, the hard drive does not show the folder you need to be in to drag and drop the folders. I'm sure there is an easier way, but I couldn't figure one out. Let me know if it works. I admit it is confusing to read. Try it and if you have no luck I will try to figure out a more in depth way to explain how to do this.

Glad you got is sorted out. The FAQ explaining how to install the Expansion Packs with Rapture v1.2.2 was written in 2010. Now that X2 includes Rapture, it might be time for CW to fix the Expansion Pack installers. Expecting users to deal with hidden directories is not ideal.

I never could get Win 7 to reveal the hidden folders! I don't know if it's just something with my system or if others are having the same problem. BTW, I did have to use the .zip versions to even get the expansions. I think Cake feels that Rapture and ZETA and Dim Pro are getting long in tooth. I hope they are working on some new synths or maybe a dedicated sampler to surprise us with. There just doesn't seem to be much interest in support for the synths right now. Not Complaining! just an observation.

I'm up and running fine. And I have the PatchArena stuff installed as well. I don't use full blown synths very much, but it is nice to have these waiting on the sidelines. Most of my work is traditional instrumentation. Drums, latin percussion, pianos, b-3, orchestral, horns, etc. I do like fiddling around with Rapture and Zeta a lot. Who knows, maybe they'll inspire me to venture out in new waters. LOL!
