Adoption

this was lifted from a jam last week-the riff was something we had been fooling with for a while and last week Harry brought these lyrics in.
His father died recently and although i`ve known him forever and met his father, who was physically the exact opposite of Harry,i presumed he was a throwback to earlier family.
Turns out he was adopted at birth, found out when he was a young man and told no-one up till now.
This was the third take, recorded live and the mix (and the playing)is all over the place and was never intended for public consumption, but i`m on holidays at the beach with just the lappy and it`s raining and i`m bored ****less and thought i`d throw it up purely for his take on adoption.
Hopefully, someone here will identify with his song and appreciate his insight.
cheers

This blew my mind.  I love the simplicity and the rawness of the tracks which gives the song an energy that can only come from synergism.  I've heard many commercial releases that don't even come close to this in terms of creativity and depth.  The lyrics are a good outlet for releasing one's inner feelings in an artistic manner.  Well done.

    All the best,

    Hi Lynn,
    thanks for your encouraging comment.
I was a bit reluctant to post this because of the beautiful chyrstalline productions you and others here achieve, especially when i saw the ugly square waveform on soundcloud!
fortunately no-one commented on the overplaying-this is the fun band with the bassplayer on drums, drummer on bass and keysman on guitar.
    cheers

Wow I really like this one!  It is raw and driven by a great rhythm and riff.  It kind of sounds as if T-Model Ford, the Velvet Underground, and Gang of Four were all put in a blender and out came this number.  Your vocal certainly has the Lou Reed touch on this number.
    Cool stuff!!!

thanks Freddy-still smiling from Slow Moe blues and particularly loved the vocal harmonies!
as for rawness-i just finished 2 cd`s for local blues outfit Salty Dog and their label knocked them back as they were "too raw" and needed remixing and mastering-(by them at a ridiculous cost,of course)but the band loved the sound and are releasing them independantly and pocketing the change.
as a young man i was a pop/soft rock fan until i heard the blues (someone gave me a Leadbelly album)and from then on i seemed to draw a line between music that was performed rather than "made".
eg:listen carefully to the start and finish of "Oh Suzanna" from Americana and you`ll hear a record being made rather than constructed.
i`m no snob though and if it moves me i don`t care how it was constructed-take the first few bars of "I Gotsa Get Paid" by ZZ Top-that sent a shiver down my spine and still does but then so does "Great Gig in the Sky" or bagpipes or italian opera!
    cheers

Given the background that you gave us and that it was a live take, made this very exciting to listen to.  Love the direct energy of it, great beat and solid guitars.  While not my #1 fave genre, it kept me interested and live or not I thought the mix came across very well, so something was in place technically and working well!   Hope you enjoy that beach in spite of the rain - and thanks for sharing this - well done!   - John

Technology drives me to drink. Fortunately, it's a short drive..

    thanks JD:

"so something was in place technically and working well!"

i`ve finally developed a live template in 8.5.3 that at the end of a session i only need to do some volume levelling and hit export with only mic choice and placement as the variables.
anything good (client wise) i send out to be remixed and mastered although they usually come back all scrubbed up and a bit clean for my liking but thats so subjective.
ps: the rain stopped and we dived with turtles and reef sharks and flew over the Great Barrier Reef in a little chopper-that was a blast-but i`ve got 2 young bands lined up for live ep`s and their enthusiam is infectious so i can`t wait to get home.
    cheers
