Clip Pan Envelope not working on Clips in (Tracks or) Lanes [Solved?]
I haven't tried this on a simple track, but clips in lanes do not respond to the clip pan envelopes... I've now tried it on two different machines with fresh projects/clips each time... Off to the Problem Reporter... [edit] Just tested... Same for track clip pan Off to the Problem Reporter again... [end edit] Keni

Strange, it's working here. You haven't inadvertently turned global automation read off have you?

I don't remember ever turning such off and don't remember where such option is, but I'll look. I seem to remember that on my first attempt I accidentally assigned gain instead of pan and realized it when the volume of the clip got lower... Thanks for the potential lead... Here's hoping it's the key! ;-) Thanks again... Keni

Keni are you expecting the track pan or volume faders to reflect the envelopes or not hearing the changes at all? They are both working here but aren't reflected in any of the controls, which is by design as the track volume and pan aren't being changed, only the clip.

I'm assuming track pan is still working OK; i.e., it's not a mono bus or similar?

I have the track panned center... I assign the clip pan to shift that clip's pan to hard left... I still hear it centered... It's this way here on two machines. One Vista32 and the other Win7Pro x64 which has both a 64&32 bit versions of X2 and all three versions/installations are not responding to clip pan tho they are responding to clip gain... Tracks or lanes.... Keni

Yup that is strange. Is it just the one clip or all of them that won't pan?

After trying a quick test this morning I'm even more confused... I had a single track with a few mono clips, no FX, and feeding a stereo bus. I added clip pan envelopes. When the track's interleave was set to mono none of the clip pans had any effect. When the tracks's interleave was set to stereo they all worked. Unfortunately I didn't have time to test track pan or X1, so my only thought was hmm...

Very Interesting Steve... I'll play with that today and see what I find here... It is very strange, but maybe some logic relative to the interleave is different now? Thanks for the lead... I'll run with it for the moment... Maybe a Baker will chime in and give us some good info? Keni

No problem Keni! But after thinking about this a little more I think it actually may be correct... If you pan a clip in a mono interleave track, and that track is panned center, do we really want the clip pan to "override" the track pan? I'm thinking no, at least not in this case, especially if I choose to pan the track off-center. But if the track interleave is set to stereo, then each clip should control it's pan position since the track's pan is now a balance control. I wonder how this works in other DAWs...

I haven't had a chance to try this here yet and tho I see the thinking in it... That means I will now have to consciously decide on something that tho maybe flawed in it's pure logic, managed to suffice my needs 100% of the time without my ever thinking about it... So tho (if this is the case), I'm grateful to have this logically correct in Sonar, but it needs more consideration regarding defaults... I will play with my normal template and see if I can somehow force the stereo interleave as a default for in this day of digital, it is more of a moot point. I can see occassions when a true mono item is easier than a mono item on stereo track, but I need the workflow and clear thinking of music more than I need perfect logic... At least until there's also a way for me to define my persoanl default settings better/easier... I've got some work to do this morning, but I'll give it a first glance before I go... Thanks... Here's to ya' [edit] I just tried it and sure enuf it works and makes sense... and I apologize for ranting (slightly) above. It's easy enuf to deal with (would be easier if interleave was on TV as well as Inspector) and does make sense... Clip comes before all the fx so if they are mono, it should be as well... Living with stereo tracks is still has some surprizes! ;-) [end edit] Keni

I'm glad to see that worked for you, Keni. However, I am curious to see whether the behavior is any different in X1 or other DAWs for that matter. While the logic does seem sound to me, there's also the aspect of consistency...

It must have been different in some respect as I use clip pan often and don't recall the last time I used the interleave button! ;-) Keni
