How do you lasso notes in the Inline Piano Roll?

How do you lasso notes in the Inline Piano Roll? No matter what I do it selects all the notes in the timeline of the lasso instead of just the notes I lassoed. Works fine in the regular piano roll view. . . .guess I'll be using the regular view for now.

Better yet, how do you even get to the inline piano roll? I can't find any info on it and I've exhausted all the menu items and right-click options.

One Help reference says to click on the Edit filter. Don't know what that is and the Help file shows no results when searching for it.

Wasn't this just a button click in 8.0?

    Very frustrating...

Press T to bring up the edit filter on the track then select notes from the drop down. This will give you the inline PRV on the midi track.  If your mouse has a mouse well press down on that will also reveal the edit filter. It can also be found in the track header of the track in the track view.

Ive not tried on the inline PRV but in the normal PRV right click and drag with the mouse selects the notes you need. I presume it's the same with the inline.

It took me awhile to figure out what the edit filter was myself. Its the button that usually says "clips" on it. There is a dropdown that you can select notes from. That brings up the inline piano roll view. Easy enough when you find it. However the behavior on selecting notes is not the same as the regular piano roll view. (at least on my setup) Right-click lassooing time line selects. Left-click inserts a note (with the smart tool). Tried using the "select tool" and right-click lassooing still selects all notes above and below and within the lasso. Possible bug???

That was my original thought too. And it's correct.

Now if they had said HUD I would have understood this. Why didn't they say "Clips" button in the Track header instead? That would have made more sense.

The Help file just confused the issue here.

No! Right click and drag with Smart Tool lassos the notes. You have to be careful not to overlap other notes or they will be selected also.

I'm trying it now and it does work just like in PRV.

It must be something with my setup. When right-click lassooing in the inline PRV it selects the whole region top to bottom. so if I just wanted to select three upper notes, it would also select any that were below it.

Shouldn't be happening that way. I see when a note is selected the entire area above and below it is grayed but that just shows the area being selected. No other notes are affected here.

You can also select one note and hold Ctrl while clicking the other ones. See if that works.

Otherwise just double-click the clip header bar (after changing back to "Clips") and use the regular PRV.

You're right Steve. I was getting faked out by the shading in the inline PRV. I think I'll prefer the regular PRV anyway. Thanks Cody
