Control surface for audio?

Is there such a thing as a control surface for audio? I have a Behringer BCF2000 that I used a long time ago with Cubase (it would do audio as well) but since I switched to X1 I haven't had the need to use it. I hooked it up tonight and it seems to only want to be used for MIDI (which is nice). I'm trying to do like a Pink Floydish song and doing it all by hand (automation) is getting tedious. I'm sure I'm missing something buy I would really like to be more hands on with outboard type mixing. Just wondering if anyone can help.

I'm not sure I'm understanding you completely. I have a BCF2000 and if you mean can you control audio tracks within Sonar, the answer is yes most definitely.

Set it to Sonar mackie mode and then connect it using the Mackie protocol. It works great that way.

If you mean can you put audio through it like a mixer, most definitely not, but that's not a Sonar limitation just impossible regardless of application.

Thanks for the tip. I knew I used to use it for audio mixing as well as MIDI in Cubase. All I want is to be able to move the faders and panning and stuff.

    That should work just fine.

Post if any problems with doing that,

I use the faders on my Axiom 61 Pro midi controller to control the Sonar console faders.

It was a little weird on how to get the right CC numbers set for each one, but multiple iterations of Learn and fader movement eventually got it all square for me.

The faders on my midi controller control the first 8 tracks in the console, which are set to display both audio and midi channel strips.

So, it would seem that probably any externally-assignable knobs, buttons, and faders should be able to be learned by Sonar, and there may be pre-existing templates with things set up for some devices.

Got it up and running finally. After about 10 youtube videos and 3 or 4 Sonar videos I got it to work. Um, is it me, or should it really be this hard to to hook up software wise? Berhinger should have a little better User Manual. I supposes it's just me

I think you have to be able to think in German (not that there's anything wrong with that....)

    My BR800 works that way.
It can be used as a simple interface for recording or as a controller all thru USB.
It's limited in the number of faders of course so a BR 1600 or better would be just fine.

Q; Any good controllers out there?

Is about how much you are willing to spend really?
Go for quality is what I would suggest or just forget it.  It's always the cheapest alternative in the long run.

I would suggest that choose something that work with any platform. Here some less expensive and more expensive alternative that you can check out. All work with Windows 7 x64 and SONAR X1 or X2.

Yes sure John but AVID Artist and SSL Nucleus are affordable. Still I think DAW controllers are overall overpriced.
Artist controller build quality should make it cost like $300-400 or something.
Cakewalk's V-700 STUDIO is also a good controller that you can take a look at. That too is overpriced.
