X2 Auto Snap - What Am I Doing Wrong?
When I used Sonar 8 I had no problems hitting the beginning of a measure when cllicking. I could click anywhere in a track, the timelime or even in a blank area under the tracks and it would take me to the beginning of a measure. Say 12:01.000 Under X2 it seems I have to click on the timeline and hope it takes me to the beginning. Yesterday I recorded a guitar track and though I was starting at 12:01:000. Nope, it started at 11:04:863 (or some such number). I didn't realize that until I began copying the recorded part out further in the track. X2 seems a tad bit more sensitive to me. What am I doing wrong? I know it's me. Auto Snap is "on" set to 1/4. Is that correct or is there another setting I need to look at? Thanks for any input.

Check the intensity setting in prefs-->customization-->Snap to grid. Extreme will make sure it snaps

Thanks, Karl. I'll give that a try.

Might be worth checking whether you have "Snap to zero crossing point" checked as well. That'll drag it off by a few ticks or more depending on material.

I did both. Seems to work just fine now. Thanks for your help. It was very frustrating.

I'm seeing a similar thing. In Track View, the Now Time will snap to the nearest whole measure number when you click anywhere in the ruler. In PRV, the Now Time will not snap anywhere but will go wherever I click on the ruler. This happens with the SMart grid on or off, at different magnetic strengths, and Snap To Nearest Audio Crossing checked & unchecked.

In Track View, the Now Time will snap to the nearest whole measure number when you click anywhere in the ruler. In PRV, the Now Time will not snap anywhere but will go wherever I click on the ruler. You need to make sure Global Snap is enabled, AND then you need to make sure that PRV Snap (top right) is also enabled. Only having one on means no snapping in the PRV.

Are these not Global settings? To bring up the Snap To Grid setting in Preferences you need to left click on the Snap icon. Then you can move the slider to "Extreme". When I open a new project the slider is set where it was not to "extreme". This is a PITA. It's like "Reset MIDI Controllers to Zero". That's not Global either.

No they are per project. If you want them as default set them up and then save it as a template, either overwriting the exisitng one or create a new one. HTH

Hey Karl Do you know what the high med low and off do in the settings. Which is best to try and get Snap to land on the transients better say on an acoustic guitar audio track? I would like for it to be on the money if at all possible seeing I dont use midi features much

digi2ns Hey Karl Do you know what the high med low and off do in the settings. Which is best to try and get Snap to land on the transients better say on an acoustic guitar audio track? I would like for it to be on the money if at all possible seeing I dont use midi features much Hi Mike I assume you are referring to the magnetic strength settings and using X1 as those options no longer exist in X2, that part has been simplified a little. In X1.... If off there is no magnetic snap as such and snap will only snap to the specified snap point. So for maximum "snap" leave it off. The low, mid, high all refer to the strength of the magnetic snap of a snap point. If it is set to low there is little pull from the snap point, so it is possible to move clips etc, almost anywhere and they won't snap to the snap points until very close to them. Medium and the pull is a little stronger so snap will "snap" from a little further away. High and the pull is stronger still and although possible to move clips between snap points the pull is still pretty strong and will snap to the snap points from much further away. That's why when it is on low it can give the impression that it isn't working as you nearly have to have a clip at the snap point before it works. In X2..... all of that has been replaced by an "Intensity" slider setting from "Light" to "Extreme" with a test area to check how it works. When set to light it's the equivalent of the old "low" setting and easily possible to place clips/notes etc between snap points. On extreme it's almost impossible to do that as the snap is so strong. The new way is IMHO more intuitive. It never made much sense to me to have to set the magnetic snap to off to have it at full power. HTH
