I hate Halloween
There I said it. A gazillion parents stealling all the parking spaces so I can't park near the door of Guitar Center. My least favorite holiday.

We have a great time. We have a big blow up castle entrance that I put in front of our front porch that is enclosed with black sheets. It's a big porch so after my wife decorates it there is still plenty room for many parents and little monsters. We give candy but I like to put "gift bags" like little lanterns and spooky cups with toys inside. If they are small we give it to their parents for them. Been doing it for years so now their are a lot more parents showing up with their little monsters. We have a great time seeing their costumes and those little monsters can sure be funny. I remember when I was small. I remember the cool places to hit and I'd like the little ones to grow up knowing and remembering the fun they had at my place.

Halloween is nuts in this country. Totally nuckin futz. It lasts the whole god damn month of October. It does. I see pumpkins and witch costumes and Halloween advertising from Oct 1. Completely crazy. In Britain, nobody even thinks about it until October 30th, and then it's like "meh..." Having said that, Christmas in Britain starts on August 31st.

Halloween and Christmas are my favorite times of year. Does Dee Snyder still host that Halloween Parade in NYC Sharke?

Money, it's all about the money.... I heard a few years ago that Halloween is actually becoming a bigger holiday financially now than Christmas ........ hard to believe but that was what some economist was saying about it. Between the parties, decorations and costumes... people were spending a wad of money on it.

@Sharke: A long time ago there used to be a Satellite company called Voom. They only offered HD channels and you had to use a special box from them to get it. One of those channels was MonstersHD. Every year at Halloween they would broadcast a Halloween parade from New York City and Dee Snyder and some obnoxious woman would be the hosts. It was fun, but you could tell she got on his nerves by the things she said, but he couldn't say anything ...

I have absolutely no use for halloween. I tolerate Christmas, mostly because it has become a season rather than a holiday... by the time it gets here I am sick to death of it. I refuse to participate in labor day. My favorite hoilday is Thanksgiving... feast day!! I like independence day, July 4th. (Bugger off queenie)... I have a real problem integrating Santa and baby Jesus. I have a real problem integrating a celebration of passover/resurecction and a bunny who hides eggs... so at Christmas I find it easiest to just go with Santa and the bunny at Easter/Passover. It truly bothers me to mix the two... but that's probaby just me. I do like me some turkey and dressing though!! Halloween.. pfffft, though I did like it as a kid!! I still buy 40 bucks worth of candy and give it out to the kids from other neighborhoods that get trucked in here from other neighborhoods.. I don't mind that, especially the really little ones, they are so special. That reminds me of a story... about 25 years ago my parents set up two witches and a kettle and all the trimmings in their front yard for halloween. Then on halloween evening they removed the witches and dressed up in the witch costumes themselves. They stood still until the kids got really close and then they moved and spoke... there was a trail of candy across the front yard the next morning that the kids left while running away screaming. My parents used to go all out with Christmas and halloween decorations, in the 1950s and 60s. Dad is 94 and mom will be 96 in Feb. My dad was raised by his mom and his great grandfather, a confederate veteran. (He still wont vote republican because it is "the party of Lincoln") My belly button is "where the yankee shot me". They still live in the house they built in the early 60s, it is amazing really. I plan to live until I am 134... all my life I have thought that I will live to be 134. I'm sure I will be quite intolerant by then. I wont even have to dress up for halloween by then, they can just put me on the porch in a chair... that should do it. J

I love Halloween. We do a halloween tree every year, which is much funnier than a Christmas tree. You can get really creative w/ that stuff. Plus, I dig skulls, bats, tombstones and all. It coincides w/ a time of the year I used to love back home, with all the leaves turning orange and red and covering the streets and sidewalks. I'll certainly miss it this year. Palms and a blue sky aren't exactly halloween-y. And Christmas w/o snow will always be a bit weird.

We normally just leave the lights off and close the door to the front room and ignore the ones who still knock on the door to a dark house...... But I have given some thought to dressing up in old ragged clothes, putting on my zombie mask and wearing my rasta man hat with the dreads and setting on the front porch swing motionless.... until the little kiddies come walking to the door only feet away from where I would be setting...... then "coming to life" ..... I think it would be hilarious..... But with so many folks these days carrying concealed ..... I don't know if such a plan would be intelligent at all..... I think the good old days of practical joking like that are gone.... people these days don't seem to have a very good sense of humor....

I may not observe Halloween, but I don't mind Halloween gigs. What other occasion prompts legions of otherwise upstanding ladies to get drunk and dress like harlots? If there were more skimpy French Maid outfits worn for Easter, I'm sure it would be more popular.

We played a Halloween gig at the Montecito Country Club near Santa Barbara, oh, 1981 or so. One guy's 'costume' consisted of just a jock strap. Sonny, the singer, remarked, "you can smell the brown."
