SONAR on Surface?

Have there been any informative discussions or articles about the potential of running SONAR on a Microsoft Surface tablet?

Given that the Surface is not yet available it is hard to imagine that there is much of value out there in the way 'informative discussions'. That said MS Surface has definitely got me intrigued... I think there is a video link at surface.com (mostly a PR video)

I did a search - only 1 real thread out side of the iPad folks, and in the 1 thread I found the consensus was that working faders in 'Pen Mode' was producing less than desirable results.

I know they are working on a Windows 8 patch for X2, and given the nature of Windows 8, that will probably be a much better starting point for looking to use something like a Microsoft Surface tablet.

Just a thought - I think the Cake site says the patch may be out by the end of the year.

    Regards,

Ok wasn't sure if someone had beta tested it and drew an official response from one of Cakewalk's engineers at some point.  I think it could be a winning combination as long as it doesn't throw pricing/margins off.

David: the CTO of Cakewalk posted audio performance results of Windows 8 and they appeared to be better than what is currently available (you can search the Forum). One of the Surface OS is Win 8 so it should work well. However that is the more expensive model and I have only seen speculation on cost for that one (as high as (US)$800) . The other model which runs on Win RT alledgedly will start at around (US)$200.

The most recent release date for Windows 8 is Oct 25th and it is reputed that the Surface will be released then also. Should be pretty cool - I'm looking forward to the launch.

Okay thanks I suspect the Intel based units will have substandard battery life, so it's the RT variant that could be the killer product.  Hopefully Cake is on board.

So, I'm interested in using the MS Surface Pro (or the v2 which is rumored to be out around the holidays 2013) as a mobile platform for light recording while on the road.  I've only started thinking along these lines, and I have other reasons for considering the Surface Pro aside from using Sonar X2 on Win 8 with touch capability.  Normally, I'd just think about a laptop, but in I'm also going to be using the Surface as a mobile design unit for sketching and compositing in Photoshop CC.

Does anyone have any experience using the Surface Pro with Sonar X2??  What kind of HDD setup are you running if so?  I'm curious if you can write live sessions to an external HDD without any audio dropouts... thanks for any info you can provide me with!!  :-)

I don't have a Surface but after some initial interest on my part and seeing some that my coworkers have I'd have to say: If I wanted a portable platform for Sonar I would go with a laptop...even a barebones model would be better suited than the Surface IMO and quite concievably less expensive.

Why is someone saying this is not available?  Surface was released last Oct and I have seen many of them.

    Just curious about the confusion.

No worries Konrad, it really is kind of disorienting when a thread lasts months and sometimes years ;-)

    Thanks for the feedback, Mike!

Yeah, I hear ya, Buddy.  I agree, it would seem even a barebones laptop would be a better road-home for Sonar X2.  But I will be getting a Surface Pro anyway for my design and artwork (using my Wacom pen/stylus for mobile design work)... so I was hoping Sonar could just piggy-back on the Surface Pro without me having to shell out for another computer.
