Local on/off and Roland Fantom X8 Synth with Sonar
I like to operate with local off when working with Sonar X2 and local on at other times. I have always done this manually at the synth, but kind of a pain. Knowing that Sonar can issue a local off on start up and local off at exit, I have always been frustrated that I can't make this work. So I'm trying again, still can't, need help. (This has always been the case for years using Sonar, not an X2 thing) [size=3 font="times new roman"] So I have added SendLocalOff=1 and SendLocalOn=1 to my TTSSEQ.INI located in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR X2 Producer. [size=3 font="times new roman"] This has no effect. I watch my synth window showing "Local Switch", settable for on or off. This where I manually set local on/off. I see no change in state for any test I do, and certainly has no effect. [size=3 font="times new roman"] So, does anyone know if the Roland Fantom's respond to the "standard" local on/off commands? Does anyone think I am changing the wrong .ini file, or not changing it correctly? Does anyone have any solution, or test I can do to get this to work? [size=3 font="times new roman"] Thanks to all.

I just turn my Yamaha keyboard's volume down and don't worry about it. I have done the local thing on/off before, but found it too much of a pain in the assertion. Any reason that wouldn't solve your issue? I don't know about that particular board you are using, just wondering if the simple thing might take care of it for you). Bob Bone

Thanks Bob - Yeah, I do that, but then I can't play along. When I manually go local off, I can play and record (through a Sonar track) with no echo - nice clean sound. If you know how I do this with play and record with the synth patch of my choice and get no echo with local on (synth vol up or down), I'm all ears.

Yes of course the fantom responds to local on/local off... if you want to diagnose this then a) your vst editor only updates some stuff on request...local control may be one of them..and b) you may have disabled reception of certain commands on the fantom Given i often use multiple parts from the fantom i never turn local control off... there are many ways to use the combination of studio/live set part keyboard switch and or part/channel select, or part mute pads to use it as a controller or a keyboard...or both

kelsoz Thanks Bob - Yeah, I do that, but then I can't play along. When I manually go local off, I can play and record (through a Sonar track) with no echo - nice clean sound. If you know how I do this with play and record with the synth patch of my choice and get no echo with local on (synth vol up or down), I'm all ears. In my case i dont see the need to have local off.. i create a studio set for a song and with keyboard switch off on all parts if you simply scroll in the fantom to a given part, the fantom will play that part.. to use it as a controller within sonar, simply scroll to an external part... So, if you wish to record a track with local on.. have sonar options as "always echo selected track" setup the sonar midi track to be input=omni, the output to be the fantom part you wish to play..ensure the keyboard switches are all off and then scroll to an external part. (or select using the pad mode 10).. at this opoint you are effectively playing local control=off
