Do We Still Have to Upgrade mp3 capability in X2

I was under the impression this had changed... No problem if not. It did work briefly...

Right, I am interested in this too. Thanks for asking.

In X1 64 bit we had to get a file sent to us via Email which was a bit of a hassle. I'm hoping it will simpler this time around.

I believe MP3 encoding is NOW part of X2 Producer...

I have it on my options and it hasn't timed out...it wasn't an "Optional" install..

and I say HATS OFF TO CAKEWALK for that!!!  WoooHoooo!!!

Sorry in being unclear. It was the file to activate it that had to come by Email. They didn't have a way to do so on the 64 bit version.

Yes I did try to export an MP3 and it worked but I don't think I've had X2 long enough to know for sure.

Because I have Pro Audio 9 the encoder is free.  But you had to activate it with a file that came with Sonar.

John I've just exported an MP3 directly from Sonar, no warnings, no popups, no activation - it just worked.

I do MP3 encoding all the time and it works.

I also had the license, but don't remember doing anything with it for X2 - I had it installed in X1.

But the encoding works as I am using it, so if it not complaining about any licensing I would think everything's fine.

I have too. But if I recall correctly there is a month's grace. We shall see.

Sorry guys, but I get this message when exporting to mp3:

"The MP3 encoder must be unlocked before use. Please visit http://www.cakewalk.com/ to upgrade..."

Also it seems to have a 48000 16 bit limitation.

I payed for  the mp3 activation earlier on this year for X1 Producer
I presume it will still work in X2 Producer ?

If you ever have bought the mp3 encoder you will not have to buy it again. This is a fact.

My only problem is the wasted effort in authorizing it.

Thanks Y'all... I was under the impression it was now an included feature. I'm going to upgrade it... X2 is a bit to valuable to me not to do that!

If they are going to add something that is extra I would vote for J Bridge before an MP3 encoder there are alternatives to that but J Bridge is something we should not even have to add because Bridging should work all the time. If I can open a VSTI in reaper and not in sonar then that is an issue I think they need to work on.

AArron (?) did a thing for LAME and sonar, dunno if he has x2 yet though.. he posted a few bits in the dev bit..

    http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2268643

basically adds encoder options for x1.. not tried it for x2 though (hard drive crash kept me busy)

for what it's worth my cubase dongle has an expired mp3 encoder license on it.. so I assume the makers charge for it.
