X1a update will not install!
I installed Sonar x1 (Build 184) today, registered, played with it, and later went to the updates page. Tried to install Update x1a and received the notice: "Cannot locate the required version of the program on this system...."
I Googled the sentence and only found two threads pertaining to the situation. Tried all of their suggestions to no avail. I tried installing X1a, X1b, and X1c and all get the same notice.
Sonar X1 is installed on my D: drive and runs fairly well (with one crash so far). I tried installing the updates from the D; drive as well as the C: drive but always the same thing.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
-Jeff-
PS I still have Sonar Home Studio 6 installed as well.

x1c is a cumulative update..you dont need either x1a or x1b

So, you have it installed on your D: drive? Not a good idea. And obviously, that's the problem. Why there and not the C: drive?

Why there and not the C: drive? i read to quick and focussed on the x1a part..lol .. so a +1 here... i would rephrase and say "i dont care why you have sonar on the D drive".. dont. put it on C drive... you are asking for trouble if you do not simply allow programs to use the default path...

I put most of my programs on the D: drive because my C: drive is an SSD and it only has about 40G left on it out of 100G. Everything else has run well on it (the D: drive) but if you think that's the problem, I'll certainly give reinstalling on the C: drive a try. Thanks. -Jeff-

Make sure you COMPLETELY remove X1 before reinstalling it on your C drive. Also, make sure you read the install instructions and make damned sure you've got your plugins & sample data loading to the correct drive. Also, read this on removal of X1: http://forum.cakewalk.com...mpage=1&print=true

Since you have an SSD drive (C: Drive) and none of the synths in Sonar have any streaming samples, why not keep all your software programs/VST's on the SSD drive and your projects/samples on the D: Drive? Ideally, you'd benefit from having a 3rd drive for sample content. Something like: C: all you software programs D: Sonar projects E: sample libraries

That's the recommended solution Mesh, without a doubt.

I talked to Cakewalk Technical support today (via phone) and the tech didn't seem to have a problem with X1 being installed on the D: drive. But (on the other hand), he couldn't tell me why the error was happening. So, I've got that going for me.
As Sherlock Holmes used to say, "It's the C: drive, my dear Watson, the C: drive."
Thanks again to all of you.
Take care.
