Fall color on the Blue Ridge

Here is a photo I made yesterday from up on the Blue Ridge Parkway over looking the Natahala National Forest.

This is a composite of 4 photos, each taken in a vertical orientation then stitched together into this horizontal panorama.

The photo stats are: Canon 5dmkII 200mm L series 70-200 lens, ISO200, f5.6, 1/350sec, tripod mount.

The photos were tone mapped in NIK HDR efx pro to develop the color and texture before using Photoshop's Photomerge stitching function.

You can open the photo in a fresh browser window to see this photo at its native 1920x912 size. The master file that I produced is actually 11621x5519 pixels... That's BIG.

best regards,
mike

    Awesome Photo Mike!

I've lived in North Carolina 22 years and have only been on the Parkway once.  That vist we traveled north of Ashville.  I have since been to the Smokies several times but have never ventured to the Parkway.  This photo makes me want to go back and travel the area some more.

    This is a similar photo.

This is a composite of 3 HDR images, each made from 3 bracketed exposure images.

Each of the 3 HDR images was made from 3 bracketed exposure images. One shot was exposed as medium and the other two were exposed as dark and bright respectively. The data was combined,  processed and tone mapped as an HDR composite using NIK HDR efx pro.

The 3 HDR images were shot horizontally and then stitched into a vertical panorama using Photoshop's Photomerge function.

I was very surprised at and appreciative of the effect of tone mapping on the distant mountains.

This jpeg is 671x982 pixels and you can view it full size in a new window or tab. It is 12.5% of the master file which is sized at 5364x7848 pixels... that's BIG.

    best regards,
    mike

    Thanks Rich!

We try to come up twice a year just to enjoy the scenery and general sense of quiet and everyone we meet up here is incredibly nice and seemingly here to do the same.

VERY, VERY nice Mike.   The tone in the distant mountains really comes out nice in this HDR image.  I just picked up a new copy of Photoshop and hope to get into HDR photography in the near future.  It's pretty new to me right now.

    Very nice Mike.

My wife is out of town this week and comes home Friday. I'm going to try and talk her in to going to the Ozarks to do some leaf peeping. I'm hoping it's sunny because my camera doesn't take very good photo's unless there is a lot of sun light.

Very nice, Mike.  Shur is pretty, esp. this time of year.

But at first I thought Blue Ridge, Tx.  I drive through there every week.  Not nearly as impressive, unless you are growing corn or cows. ;-)

Thanks to everyone for taking a look.

I took some massive panoramas yesterday and spent the evening bringing my laptop to it's knees. I think I need more RAM. :-)

Was just thinking about a shot like this driving back across Michigan this week with all the trees turning.  Love the fall up here in the North!!!

Cool pics Mike. The second one is by far my favorite of the two. Looks nice up there. I love a bit of mountain scenery my self, having family in the mountains of Norway and spent a lot of time up there.
