X2 - How to move notes to a different take lane?

I played my piano part with both hands. I want to separate the left hand from the right. In X1 and earlier, I did this by selecting the right hand notes in the piano roll, and then in the Track View, drag the select [partial] clip to a new track.

This does not work in X2, at least when using the take lanes. When I drag the selected notes to a different take lane, they don't move.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Is there a workaround?

I often want to do the same, and I'm always looking for a better way.  Never tried your way, perhaps tomorrow.

What I do (and this puts each hand in a different track, not clip lane as you want) is select LH notes in PRV (in say track 4), cut, then paste special to track 5.  Pretty quick. Be sure the now time is the same as the note on time of the first cut note.  And for good feedback have tracks 4 and 5 selected in PRV.

My first note in the clip I want to move starts on the "and". So when I paste it, everything gets shifted. :(

Is there another way to move notes to a separate take lane, perhaps by having them "split" from the current track lane?

Well, that is not the reason for a take lane... takes are sequential in nature

I suggest LH & RH tracks for that.. you can clone the track, move the notes (check snap settings before pasting), or if there is two distinct regions you can also make a a split on your controller and record directly to LH & RH tracks.

Okay, so it sounds like take lanes are not really "mini track folders". Too bad. It would be nice to be able to split drums in particular into take lanes, and then "collapse" them again. I guess I'll have to stick to using tracks for all the different parts, and save take lanes for comping.

Good point. I was trying to do something similar last night. I resorted to dragging my RH clip to a separate MIDI track and then back to take lane #2. But any changes I made in the PRV showed up as new clips in take lane #1. I was hoping to use take lanes in a single instrument track, but I guess it will have to be separate MIDI tracks.

Not really ... I'm enjoying the UI changes in X2. In fact, I find I don't want to open X1 anymore. But like you said: take lanes are not really "mini track folders". I guess we're just being too innovative for our own good!

The logical solution to your needs for multi channel drums is a track folder... the rationale for take lanes was just that .. the ability to see, manipulate and manage multiple takes of a single track :)..
