Hunted - 2012 X2 Mix
Hi All, Hopefully this will get some feedback too. Song originally all done on keyboard. This was re-recorded along with Nick Mazzone on Guitar and he did some of the programming for Drums originally on new work. I have now brought it all up to date and added some new sounds and the congas in from X2 loops. Leigh (wife) came into room, "I have an idea for a song", great I say, what?, "Stop, look at me, look what do you see, I'm hunted", then she walked out of the room!. I then came up with the beat using a Zep kit on my TS-12 at the time.. the rest, as they, is history. This is one of my favourite songs I composed, and it's by far the most technical recordings I have done to date in X2. Hope someone likes it :D. http://soundcloud.com/tony-carpenter-1/hunted-new-2012-mix Tony

This seems to be one of the more passionate songs I've heard from you. I always like to hear what inspired a song, and kudos to your wife for her role in this. You have inspired me to have a listen to the new samples that came with X2. I enjoy your vocals and singing style, and that may be your biggest strength besides your creativity. I also liked the f/x you used on the lead vocal. You're on a roll, and I hope you have many more songs to share with us.

I admit to being a man of many talents and master of none :). It's nice to make songs, if I had access to more proficient people to do some of my work for me, I would be amazing I am sure ;). Leigh is actually the lyricist on most of the songs that have come along in the last 15 or so years, she gets prolific on me. Occasionally when the mood has hit, I have written, or finished in this case.. something or other. I am fairly certain I will surprise people with some of the styles we have tackled along the way yet :D. Tony

Very cool tune Tony... Impressive vocal performance... I'm not crazy about the snare sound, and all the cheesy drum rolls... otherwise, I really like this... well done...

When the song starts out you don't know what to expect. but when everything kicks in around .10 you get a great surprise. I like the arrangement and the mix was good

Frank : Thank you, you hit the nail on the head as to what has consumed most of my mixing hours for the last 2 weeks... that snare :D. Unfortunately Nick used loop samples (one stereo track) to try to recontruct the drums to closely match my Zep gated/plate drums off the TS-12. That is all I have to work with. I am not as clever as some here yet with using audio snap etc to get something better to sit at that spot along with it and make it sound better. I did the best I could with what I had, EQed the hell out of it etc. At least the kit has some snap to it.. trust me when I say it sounded MUCH worse!! LOL. And thanks, I enjoyed doing the song a lot when I first wrote it. Singing it was fun. James : Thanks buddy for taking the time to listen :). Marcus : I like to give surprises :D. Thank you for listening. I am open to collabaration on any of these songs by those better at playing/programming than me :). Tony

Hey Tony, love the feel of this and the arrangement. this has a great "big" sound to it. I like the echo vocals on the verses, but I would have preferred a drastic change at the chorus. but that's just my opinion.

I am going away for a few days, when I get back I'll upload a change per your suggestion. I changed how I do the backing vocals in the chorus's a bit, I am pretty happy with the idea. It changes it up a bit, I concede your point it was too much the same. Tony

Hey Tony! Cool song, and I like the drive it has. All the instruments are played very well I believe. I really like the EQ etc of the bass guitar and kick drum, and the crunch guitars seem spot on as well. Now...I seem to differ (imagine that..lol) with the concensus on the vox... I had a hard time understanding your words, and I think it was becasue of the heavy short delay (or double track?) It was a little dark to me too. I think I'd add some sparkle, lose the short delay (or bring it back in the mix), and check out another reverb. The only other thing I noticed was the snare seemed really dark to me, and it would be nice to hear it crack in this driving tune. (Drums play such a key role in power rockers.) Have you ever used the Sonar Percussion Strip? It's really cool for that. Then, a little high end shine (exciter, not EQ) on the whole mix would just polish it off I think. Of course, all my comments are purely just my amateur opinion... Your wife got any other ideas for tunes?? Post 'em!!!! I could use some inspiration!! LOL Good job!

Heya Tony, Sorry I didn't reply sooner, been away for 3 days and staying out of the loop :). I am going to revisit the vocals more with the changes I have already made per Beagles idea. Also, the drums.. yeah well.. the sample Nick used for the snare at the time just totally sucks. I have however had an epiphany. I am going to try to silence that snare on the stereo track (all I have) using R-mix or EQ then try to audio snap a new snare track to fit along with those drums... wish me luck :D. Oh, and in my wifes words, NO!, they're all his!! LOL. Tony
