Unpack them if they are zipped....put them in their own folders and place all those in a fonts folder where you can find them easily.

Load the SF player and then load the font you want. As long as the player is set up properly in the track it should work.

Some fonts do not work well... especially the free ones.

The specs don't seem to indicate that MC6 includes a soundfont player.
SFZ+ is available free from Cakewalk.
    You can download it here:

My mistake, I thought you had the SFZ player and were having issues playing the fonts.

Actually, I used to use SFZ a lot back when I first got started. Mainly because the fonts sounded better, generally speaking, than the midi patches in TTS and other synths which used algorithms to create the sounds. Fonts used waves in many cases to give a more realistic sound.

However, when I got MC5, it came with Cakewalk Sound Center (as does MC6) and after listening to the sounds in it, I stopped using the SFZ player totally. When I switched to my new DAW, I did not bother to migrate my collection of fonts or the player to it and have not used them since. I tend to work with a limited number of synths to do what I do..... so perhaps, I should (if only for educational reasons) open SFZ that came with MC6 and see what is in it.

In my opinion, CSC has much better sounds and they are sampled, hence better, and there are additional sound libraries available for $20 each (last time I looked) and I highly recommend them.

Ok thanks for the assistance - I have downloaded sfz and now when i go to the browswer in MC6 i can load sfz as a softsynth.

Now i am at a loss. How do I assign the sfz to a particular midi track? i.e. i want to play a sf2 file on midi track 3 but there doesn't seem to be any explanation of how to do this.

Similarly if I use TTS1 the same problem occurs - that is how do i assign an instrument from one of these synths to a midi track?

Looking forward to hearing the answer foor what i am sure is somethign very simple I have overlooked.

You don't assign SFZ.... it is the destination for the midi.... you will assign the midi to go to the synth SFZ ....

THis is one way to do it if you have an existing midi track.....

    Insert a new audio track

Insert SFZ into it's FX bin. Minimize the synth....

Select the output box in the midi track and select SFZ from it's available options.....

Be sure a font is loaded in SFZ and click play.. you should hear the music.

If you use INSERT SYNTH and create 2 new tracks then you can simply input the midi (coming in) to that midi track..... if played in on a piano keyboard, you should hear it playing.
