Controlling amplitube and guitar rig amp sims with midi in x2

In x1, amplitube and guitar rig could be controlled by midi. Amplitube needed to be configured as a softsynth and guitar rig just worked. X2 seems to have changed that, as neither shows up in the midi tracks' output selections, and amplitube doesn't show as a softsynth even when configured that way. If there's a new way to do this, I haven't figured it out yet. Anybody?

    I cannot speak to Amplitude, so I won't.  :)

For controlling knobs and gidgets within Guitar Rig 4 or 5 in X2, you have to:

    1.  Go to Utilities>Cakewalk Plugin Manager
    2.  Click on the left on VST Instruments
    3.  Click on the list on Guitar Rig 4 or 5
    4.  At the bottom of the window, click on the Properties tab (something like VST Properties or Instrument Properties - can't remember)
    5.  Once the properties page opens up, make sure to check the box for configure as synth, then OK, or apply, or whatever to close
    6.  Unload any instance of Guitar Rig in the project you want to set up for midi control of GR.
    7.  in the audio track you want GR to be applied, insert Guitar Rig as a SYNTH in the FX bin.
    8.  Insert a midi track, and assign the output to Guitar Rig - assign the input to whatever you want to use to control GR.
    9.  Right-click on any knobs or whatnots in GR and click on Learn (might say midi learn)
    10.  Twirl, move, or press whatever knob, fader, or expression pedal you are trying to use for that GR control
    11.  You should see a message that GR has created a new Learned Event, or something to that effect.
    12.  You should now have full control in GR for that knob or whatsit.
    13.  Ta Da

Please try the above, I use it all the time for controlling GR knobs and such from either one of my keyboard midi controllers (Axiom 61 Pro), or my midi pedal foot board (Behringer FCB1010).

    Hope that helps,

Maybe the above approach would also work with Amplitude - good luck,

Thanks for your reply. As you can see by re-reading my op, There was no issue in X1, which required the steps you outlined. The problem arose in X2, where that procedure no longer works. I've contacted Cakewalk, but they're yet to reply.

I wrote those steps for X2, and I ABSOLUTELY have it working in X2, using Guitar Rig 5 configured as a synth through the Cakewalk Plugin Manager's Instrument Properties dialog box.

In the video above, he does a couple of scans of the plugins, while in my case I just restarted X2 since it scans on startup, and Guitar Rig 5 absolutely shows up as a VST Synth, and it absolutely accepts learned midi control from my Axiom 61 Pro knobs and such.

Please carefully review either the steps in my post or the steps in the video - they DO work.
