I'd say go for it. It's never done Bapu any harm. (or has it?)

you might find your calling..... write it and see. No one here will black list you.... and getting outside of the box of your favorite genre can very often open you up to new and creative ways of looking at your favorite genre. If nothing else, it does tend to recharge the batteries. So write it. Then post if here in the songs forum.

I just saw on Soundclick the other day that my 2 most-downloaded songs over the years are an incredibly loose rock and roll song and a classical thing I wrote for my dad. I don't know which one hindered (or helped) my career. I'm still slinging mulch at Walmart*. Go for it!

As someone who has bounced around many genres and been given a hard time about it by hard headed, close minded and unoriginal fans, bandmates and friends (like almost to the point of violence) I say screw 'em all. Play what makes YOU happy and it will come through in the music. It may not make everyone happy but those who do appreciate it will appreciate it more and you will have a broader potential fan base. Those who want to be staunch, rigid and judgmental can go suck a lemon.

Sort of started ha ha I went through few genres Hip hop 1st Motown 2nd. Classical, Baroque 3rd I compose Who Say's piano version & working on 2nd song from scratch, Sonata at same time. In this genre is 1st time I completed song. (FUNNY PART HEARD CLASSICAL GENRE IS HARDEST HA HA) True long comes from heart and I like it is what matters. Thanks everyone I get posting them up soon.

it's been done before... Weezer's song "Dreamin'" is written in sonata form King Crimson's "Starless" on the "Red" album.... some that come close: "Supper's Ready" by Genesis, "Lizard" by King Crimson, "Echoes" by Pink Floyd, "Passion Play" by Jethro Tull, "The Gates Of Delirium" by Yes, "Eruption" by Focus........
