Twisted Star - an experiment in horror

Hi,

I've finally had time for some music over the last couple of weeks and so I've written a piece for Hallowe'en for a 'challenge' being run by The Piano Cloud group on Soundcloud.

It started off as a twisted take on Twinkle Twinkle Little Star but morphed into something a bit different.

It does need some mixing and mastering attention but I won't have time for that until after Hallowe'en so I thought it best to post it now.

Any tips on mixing/mastering such a diverse range of instruments and genres would be sincerely appreciated!

Cheers,
Terry.

Interesting, def needs a master.  Its well put together and would sound good in a horror film or even The Walking Dead Lol.

That chord change at :40 and 3:40 is one I've been wanting to use for a long time but it's so dark I could never make a song of it.  This is the perfect vehicle for that chord change.  Those two minors are so.... gothic!

    Cool production.  Ambitious too!

You are so incredibly talented and versatile.  This is just incredible!  Good luck on the challenge!  I can't imagine why this wouldn't win.

    Hi,

Thanks for listening and commenting -

@Ben - Yup, it'll take a few hours for me to sort this one out. I'm thinking of putting it on my next album so may leave the mastering until I do the whole thing unless I can get a couple of hours before Hallowe'en to do it.

@Daryl - I love that chord change too! It goes against all harmonic rules that are taught in schools but sounds so dark. I used it when I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to score a horror documentary (Screamer: The Art Of Terror) last year and I've been looking for an excuse to use it again ever since!

@Janet - Glad you enjoyed it. The challenge isn't a competition, just a way to get like-minded composers and players to push themselves a little bit by adding deadlines and structure to our compositions. You should check out The Piano Cloud on Soundcloud and Facebook (http://soundcloud.com/groups/the-piano-cloud & http://www.facebook.com/groups/486549744693031/) some marvellous pianists and composers on there.

    Thanks again!

    Cheers,
    Terry.

This is a terrific Halloween song, Terry.  If not, then it would be ideal for the next Batman movie.  I don't know what you intend to do with the mastering, but it's pretty close, now.  One of the great things about this version is the dynamics.  I just don't hear that around here as well as you do it.  Good luck with the challenge, and I hope your son is doing better.

    All the best,

Interesting stuff, must admit the snare panned so far to the right is distracting for me.  Enjoyed the playing and the invoked atmosphere.
