Beware of Darkness

Please have a listen to this cover of the great George Harrison tune from the "All Things Must Pass" album and let me know your thoughts.

I played electric and acoustic guitars, sang the vocals, and sequenced the bass, piano, strings, drums and percussion.

This is one of my favorite tunes from George.

Thanks,
Jerry

This is one of my all time favorite songs, and you did a damn good job on this cover.  Your voice sounds terrifice, and the care you took to arrange this pays off.  The mix is clear and sounds good on my system.  The reverb used on the drums isn't overdone, and all the instruments sound like they're coming from the same space.  Bravo.

    All the best,
    Lynn

I'm with Lynn on this one, I love this George Harrison song.  Now this is a good version, your straining slighty on the vocals but so did George too at times.

It all sounds good but for me there is a tad too much verb particulary on the kick and the toms.  I would never put that much verb on my bass instuments.

    But good job.

    Peace Ben

    Thanks Lynn and Ben!

I experimented with trying to replicate Phil Spector's wall of sound and just wasn't able to get it to sound the way I wanted it to sound.  I read that Spector piped the raw audio into a huge mic'd room to produce natural reverb for the wall of sound.  I was using fx and it just ain't the same.

Man, I would love to have been at that concert.  I saw George in Atlanta a few years after that - it was amazing, but what a lineup you of stars you got to see!

    Hi Jerry,
I'm not familiar with the original tune, but I like what I hear in your version.  It is DEFINITELY George Harrison-esque!  You have NAILED his guitar style and sound for that matter.

Only 2 little crits in my opinion-  the guitar on the left seems just a tad loud for the mix (us guitar players tend to do that a lot I think, myself included), and your solo could be a little louder I think.

Normally, I would never put reverb on my kick, but it worked quite well in this tune.

I'm actually a "wall of sound" fan.

    Good job!

    Cheers!

    Tony

Thanks Tony - I agree with your volume suggestions.  I mix with headphones and struggle with that alot.  I am working on a remix...

Liked listening to this tune. The mix sounds good here. I agree that you nailed those guitar parts and sounded almost like George himself.
