Sonar X2 Sutdio VST Latency Issue

Hey everyone! I’ve been using Sonar X1 Essential, and recently upgrade to Sonar X2 Studio. I’ve been having issues when using VST plugins and effects. My specs and running plugins are below. Since I’ve been out of the home recording game for a couple of years, I wanted to see what other Sonar users thought about the issues. Whenever I get around 10 or so VST plugins running (which I’ll cover in a minute) I start getting a lot of lag, and of course the sound starts to get clouded. My specs are: Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit. Intel i5 2.5 GHz processer. 8GB of RAM. USB Interface is M-Audio Fast Track interface. On almost every song I use the following: Steven Slate Drums 4 Waves Gold Plugin Bundle CV Piano (the free VST) Various Sonar included Plugins Guitar Rig 4 (for bass tones). All of my VSTs are legit copies (so there’s not an issue with a bad download or something). I’ve tried turning off different VSTs, but I still get hit with latency when I get up to 10 (especially if Steven Slate Drums is running). Right now I either think that the Fast Track is the problem, or I’m using one of these plugins wrong. Or, are my specs really not as good as I think they are for handling this many plugins? I did a search on this but couldn’t find anything, so if I missed something point it my way!

What is your sample rate set at?

    You are running ASIO?

    What is your buffer size?

if you have vsts with lfos and lotsa envelopes and ccs and nrpn automation they will eat up cpu time.  try freezing a couple of synths at a time to see if there is any diff.  my fast track ultra kinda craps out on me once in a while - m-audio is pretty bad at driver updates unfortunately.  ru running any bitbridged 32-bit plugs??

Lower your sound cards ASIO or WDM driver mode to its lowest possible without causing drop outs

If your recording, make 10000000000% sure you  are not using plugins (FX) that are made for mixing. These plugins are CPU heavy in some cases and will introduce hidden buffers casing latency. That's why there made for mixing.
