windows icons for 32bit vs 64bit? (revised)(RESOLUTION via forum member!)
Anyone made icons that are clones of the true Sonar program icons but that include "32" and "64" to indicate which flavor of Sonar is going to be launched? I like to use the task bar to launch stuff, and of course the EXEs of X1 (and I haven't installed X2 yet, but I bet it's still the case there) have the same (single) icon within their EXE files. So, having one for 64 and one for 32 result in the same icon (side-by-side) on the task bar.... (and I looked at "about" in my recently upped to expanded, and there's no indication of 32/64 there either). Update: the about doesn't show anything in the 32bit version, but "x64" in the 64bit. How 'bout a mod to the dialog for 32bit, "32bit"?

You could always make a desktop wallpaper that has "32 bit" and "64 bit" strategically placed above the respective versions of Sonar in the taskbar....lol

Well, I just ran a test of this and it worked just fine.
I created a shortcut on my desktop for X2, and then renamed the shortcut to include x64. I then dragged it to the task bar to pin it there.
When I hover my mouse over the icon for a moment, the actual name of the shortcut gets displayed, and since I put the x64 in the name, that indeed does show up during the hover display name response.
Would that work for you?

Fellas, Thanks for the replies!
In Win7, since you can "pin" icons to the start menu (and turn off the automatic addition/deletion of icons based on usage), I put the infrequently used things there; the frequently used icons go on the quick launch task bar. Quick Launch has the nice attributes of: No double-clicking required to start an app, plus right-clicking the icon shows you all the recently opened stuff for that particular program (and you can customize how many items are listed).
I try to keep the desktop itself clear of program icons so I can put shortcuts to current projects and work directories there.
I know I can rename the icon and hover over it, but I wish to side-step the need to hover, and know without ambiguity which is which.
I know, I know, I'm being picky. :) John

The other way to do this would be to create an icon - maybe Paint or whatever. Then create a shortcut for X2 on your desktop Then right-click on the shortcut and click on properties Then click on Change Icon at the bottom - this may give you a message telling you to pick an icon from a list, just click past that, and a list of icons gets displayed (Windows icons). There is a place there where you can point to an icon of your own choosing (the one you made). After choosing the icon that you made, drag the shortcut down to pin it to the task bar. Bob Bone

Thanks, I am going to take one of the X2 guys there on the bottom and edit in a 32 and 64 using Paint or some other editing program, save it off under a new name, and use that icon for my shortcuts, which I will then pin to the task bar.

It will be very difficult to get a 32 or 64 to display in these icons. The typical size for stuff on the taskbar is 32x32 pixels - but you can use a larger setting which I believe is 48x48. Most of the icons I made range up to 256x256 down to 16x16. The larger sizes are easy, but 48x48 and smaller are a challenge.
If you intend to do a lot of icon work I recommend Microangelo Studio, I've used it for many years.

The taskbar icon size is 16x16 on my system.

I had thought about using 3 dots at the top for the 32-bit clue and 3 more at the bottom for the 64 bit clue. But there's no way of knowing what one would like and it's just a kludge.
I'd go with different colors and change the splash screen for Sonar X2 to have the same color code.
The Splash screen is at the program installation folder called Splash.dib.
I think DIB and BMP files are nearly the same so you can rename them and use a simple editor.
