Drone2012 - a new Dimaension X album
... and a new Dimaension X album, finally. An experiment in drone-doom-noise. I'm mainly toying with feedback, delays and other effects in real-time. For a lot of this I just propped my guitar up in front of the amp and let it do the work. The final "song" is a "cover-tune" of sorts, but obviously severely modified. Anyone care to venture a guess? http://archive.org/details/DX_drone2012

Nice work. I really like Drone 2 - a bit more drive ;-) clear drums sound great. @

And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

Nice sound , as a drummer the beat in some places are out of time but I like where this is going . Work on more on even time with the drums and cymbals and it will sound better . Nice work in progress - James

Thanks guys - in the first two "songs" the guitars are one take thru, no overdubs at all, and mostly improvised on the spot with little to no preparation. In fact, in the first song I really did just prop up the guitar in front of the amp and let it feedback, while manipulating my effects pedals in real-time. Same with the bass tracks. Song 3 is a bit more "planned out" with two actual recorded guitar tracks. Song 4 is a "cover" of a lesser known song from the third album of a metal band from the 1980's. I wanted it to be kind of like Sunn O)))'s "FWTBT". @James - yeah, the drums might be little off-time here and there, but that makes them seem more "human" to me. Since these are programmed (or played on a keyboard) drum samples (EZ Drummer and Big Mono Analog drum samples), I want it to sound as much like a "live" person playing a drumkit as possible. So a lot of the little beats, fills, cymbal crashes, etc., aren't quantized. I even used the "humanize" control to "de-quantize" some of the drums.

Nice soundscapes. I like people that think out of the box and are willing to do something different.

I really like the guitar tone. The growl is great.

Thanks again folks. I definitely decided to try something really different and experimental this time. After listening heavily to Sunn O))), Earth, Nadja, Phrozenlight, The Ambient Visitor, Vulture, Black Spring Monolith and other heavy drone and "soundscape" bands, I decided to try to create my own version of this genre. I'm pretty happy with this guitar tone, too. I just re-did my whole rig this summer. The guitar is my 2008 Schecter Omen 6 with GFS Power Rails pickups. I'm plugged into a new pedal board I just put together this summer - all Behringer pedals. Yeah, I said Behringer. Main tone and distortion is from the TM300, which is a clone of the Tech21 GT2. I highly recommend it. Also using the TO100 overdrive (a TS9 clone). I'm using my ZT Lunchbox amp to monitor and get feedback, but my main signal is recorded direct thru my POD XTLive set for the "Hiwatt" sim. I think my next project is going to be a polar opposite of this one ... complex short "songs" and collections of riffs and guitar solos.
