Strat PUP Question

Converting to a lefty

Do the pups need to be flipped 180 degrees converting from a left to a right handed guitar or just readjust the height in relation to the strings?

Do the pickups have "staggered" pole pieces?

I never thought about it before.

It seems like it would be a pretty good idea... but the base plates aren't symmetrical so when you rotate 180* it's gonna get funky.

Well these are a little but the appear to be the same on the ends and a little higher in the middle.

I think other makes are different (But not these) under the B & E string (lower)

    Its a MIM Strat

Im just not sure of the make up of PUPS and if they are sensitive as to which strings are over which part of the pick-up

Well they had staggered poles on Jimi's guitar.
He raised the pup on the bass side and lowered on the little E side.
    Worked for him.

Just mark which is which. (neck...etc.)

Well I havent disassembled the assembly and was thinking if there isnt a difference this is all Id need to do.

Hopefully cause I dont want to yank new strings to swap them around once I put 'em on and tune it up  LOL

My other strats there was a definite difference and the staggering was obvious on what side was which

    What options do ya have?

    It's that or buy some.
Not a good idea trying to move those magnets.
(assuming all your Strat pups are staggard)

Yes, according to another thread, there are different heights for each pole or string when making the pickup, so I would rotate it 180 degrees. I still don't exactly know what a PUP is though?? (Pickup ??)
