Does Google Chrome have a mp3 player built in?

I'm new to Chrome browser and I have noticed that mp3 links stream naively in it with out calling up a third party mp3 player plugin that I have installed.

I'm guessing it came with it's own player plug in.

Yes? Maybe?

It seems too cool... just click and play.

best regards,
mike

Don't take this as a definitive answer, but I did a quick search and it looks like you have to get an mp3 player from the Chrome store.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

Isn't Microsoft Windows great, allowing you to assign an offline file as an application type so you cam interact with offline content like it's on your very own PC?

IIRC the idea came in with Windows 95 and IE4.  You've been able to open an mp3 with anything you choose to open it with since then.

Nice of Google to include an mp3 player in their own browser, I'm sure the more you use it, it will become more able to tailor content to suit YOU specifically in order to provide you altruisticly with the best possible user experience.

    How cool is that?

I noticed no difference when listening to music from soundclick and other music streaming sites..... they act the same as before.

Mike likes to talk about the 1% of the population that don't stream mp3's though.

I've got this little player thing that just shows up in chrome on a black background and plays any .mp3 link I click on. I never did anything but down load and install Chrome. I'm not signed in to Google or anything and I haven't linked my Chrome install to my Google ID... so I don't know that I've loaded any plugins that were extra.

    It just seems to work.

    Nice.

It's like html5 came a day early or something like that.

    best regards,

I just found some info in the interweb from an blog article posted about a year ago:

Chrome’s internal music-player launches upon clicking on a mp3 instead of just downloading it.

On the internal player’s page you can download the mp3 via pressing CTRL+S (respectively the option-key on the Mac).

To download a file directly, hold the ALT-key during clicking on the link. You can get used to it after a while even if its not the most beautiful solution.

    Pretty cool.
One stop listen or download and no special html coding.

I found some info on Googles mp3 player.

    Section 2 -- COMPOSITION/INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS
% by WT CAS No. INGREDIENT UNITS VAPOR PRESSURE
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Solvent:

    A little lemon essence:

Since when have you needed any special HTML programming for Windows to recognize an mp3?

I wonder why Googles' Chrome would have bothered to include an mp3 player when every Windows user has at least Windows very own media player built in.  Altruism maybe?

I'm also sure all of us here on a discerning music site also have plenty of other options for mp3 players and make concious choices already.

But Mike, thanks for the heads up, we'd be lost without you.

    Good times.
