Plate Reverb for Vocals

Hi,

I have Sonar X2 Studio and I'm more of a hobbyist than anything when it comes to music production.  I just got Sonar X2 last week and am new to Sonar altogether.  I'm looking for a plate reverb for (male) lead vocals.  The presets I have are labeled with weird names and don't say "plate" or "spring", etc.  Can someone please tell me the settings I could use to create a plate reverb?  OR...recommend a plugin that would give me a good plate reverb  preset (labeled as such) for vocals?  I don't want to spend $100+ for reverb but I don't mind spending something, if I have to.  Thanks!

Valhalla room is good. You can get passable results in Sonar especially with Breverb and Perfect Space. I think these are in X2 producer though.

With vocals, especially lead vocals  less is more.Experiment with existing plates until you get something you like. You can then save that preset in Sonar.

I would not rely on pre-sets. to get the optimal sound for each vocal or instrument, you will probably need to adjust some of the settings on the reverbs. Especially Pre-delay and response time and room size. Each track will need different settings for these things and the other settings like damping ect. ect ect.

The best way is to learn what each setting does and then use your ears to adjust them. This goes not only for reverbs, but for every single audio effect you would use. There are no one setting fits all.

Of the reverbs included with SONAR Studio, the Sonitus is a good bet. There are a couple of no-cost options to check out, maybe ReverberateLE or Epic. Pretty tough to beat ValhallaRoom for $50.

Sonitus or the Studio reverb (I think that is what it is called) come w/ studio, I think.  I think the Sonitus might come w/ a plate but I'm not at the music computer right now.

Short reverb time and low pass filter should get you close.  But as CJ sez, it is best to adjust by ear.  Run through the presets and find something close to what you want - then tweak.

Nah there's no Plates in the Sonitus, but there are a couple of Vocal presets which should serve as a good starting point.

But be prepared to spend some time tweaking them as suggested above.

Epic Verb is quite good (and free!)
