On a lighter note: Hell is other people, I confirm...

As I'm sitting on the balcony, trying to enjoy my morning coffee...

One neighbor apparently believes that it's highly entertaining for the rest of us to hear her end of all of her phone conversations, as it seems she systematically heads out on the balcony when she's on the phone. Usually for hours. And she's LOUD. I'm sorry to admit, but the fact that she speaks Spanish doesn't exactly add to the charm at this point.

OR, it maybe that her younglings are loud too, so she has to step out if she wants to hear anything.

I'd understand that.

They usually play video games all day and listen to "music" (or, as an alternative, watch the Chipmunks, which can seriously damage your ears, even from here) all day w/ the volume as loud as possible.

I know that because she/they never close their balcony door - except when she's on the phone outside, of course. So I guess she must have at least a mild notion that they are too loud.

I think we also have one neighbor who has yet to figure out how the alarm on his car works. It goes off EVERYDAY. Sometimes a couple of times a day, actually. Did just now. And apparently, he also suffers from a severe case of OCD because he will systematically remote lock/unlock his car at least 10 times in a row afterwards. There we go. Wait for it... 7, 8, 9, 10! He's got it.

The guy next door has eclectic musical tastes. I know this because he loves loud music and he also doesn't like to close the balcony sliding door. Hendrix and Janis are cool. But apparently his friends dig hip hop because his playlist changes when he has buddies over. Which is every night.

That's another thing. I don't get the open door thing. It's not like there's fresh air coming in. And don't people want to keep their private life, uh, private? Don't they have the slightest idea that not everyone outside wants to listen to their music?

We also have one neighbor who loves dogs and owns 2 of them. But apparently, he prefers them right outside - which I can understand because they're quite noisy and annoying and they can fight w/ each other for hours. Often seems like they only want in though...

The odd thing is, I am a self-confessed misanthrope. Maybe because I can't just ignore the fact that I'm not alone in this world and that people sure seem to do their best to remind me of that.

But as a result of this acute consciousness, I tend to be very considerate of others - because, you know, since we have to live together, we better be considerate of others and make the best of it. In fact, because I know that I may be a bit too sensitive, I tend to overcompensate and place other peoples' rights and freedoms before mine and to go the extra mile in being considerate and tolerant.

But sometimes, I think the key to living together in harmony is not to be considerate of each others, but instead, to be blissfully ignorant of all others around you.

Should I ever decide to go for that option, I'm pretty sure that I have enough speakers/wattage in this house to drown out all of their feeble attempts at annoying the entire community.

Wonder how they'd like a bit of good old dark-electro-industrial-noise-harsh-EBM...

Now we know the real reason you're looking for a Marshall.

What's amusing and puzzling now, may become a bigger pain later.  Good luck with the situation.  I hope it doesn't get worse.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

    So....
Las Vegas is noisier than New York City. Gotcha. The little stack isn't going to help with that.

To be honest, it's tolerable. Not to the point where it actually bothers us when we're in. But, you know, it's nice to be able to spend some time outside.

The only time where it made me miserable enough to go back in was when that lady and her kids decided to listen to what sounded like a 2 hours long non-stop medley of the same beat and repetitive noises. I was actually hoping she'd walk out, but got tired of it before she did.

The Marshall sure is a weapon of choice. ;) I remember one time getting so sick of my upstairs neighbor's music that I ended up placing the Marshall on its back w/ all knobs to 10, putting the strat directly on it to get a nice feedback going and leaving the place for an hour or so to run errands.

Sounded like a plane was landing in the apartment. Jimi would have been proud. ;)

I can hear birds fart at least four blocks away when I'm in the yard.
I'd make it there one day. The next day I would pack and walk if I had to.
That's a fact. That is exactly why I can hear those birds. :)

    Wow!!
    Rain, I feel your pain....
I would consider getting into a house once your lease runs out.
    Best of luck!!

Yup - that's pretty much the way it is in Stoneham (Quebec) where we hope to settle down eventually.  Mountains, trees, wildlife, and the family...

That being said, despite the annoying neighbors at times, I can still enjoy some quiet moments outside - something which was impossible on 42nd street.

If not for those few people, we actually get to enjoy both the quiet life while keeping all the advantages of the big city (like having music stores w/ everything I need 5-10 minutes from here.)

That's the plan. We rented this condo from a friend who owns a couple of them here - the show he was in was closing and he was leaving town right when we arrived. Actually our show is replacing theirs. Anyway, this leaves us time to get to know Vegas and to find in which part of the city we want to live.

Having to buy a new car kind of set us back a bit in terms of cash down for the house, but the plan is to move into our own house sometimes in the second half of 2013.

I'm sure we'll enjoy the quiet life. We've had a few dinners w/ friends already, people who own houses in different parts of the city. Sure nice to spend quiet evenings outside in quiet suburbs, but still have a Guitar Center nearby. ;)

If you really like the quiet life, you should come down here to FL. I just love the country style living with lots of nature/land/trees, very peaceful (except for my 3 little ones, but it's still a learning transition for them to speak softly) and not too far from the city......best of both worlds!!

My brother in law did a nice one. He got fed up with the music the neighbours played (loud) to accompany their barbequing.

He went to the faculty of music in the university and borrowed Tibethan temple music. You know, gigantic low pitch horns, sounding like stretched farts of  a sperm whale, lasting for hours, accidentally decorated with some bells and such.

I would have liked to be there when he put the CDs in the boombox and turned the volume to eleven and started a casual conversation with is friends "just like normally"!

Never been there. I'd be curious to see. My wife has, though - one months of rehearsals in Orlando. But since they were working 12-16 hours a day, she didn't get to appreciate the place.

That being said, we're probably here in Vegas until we head back to Quebec. So far. I've learned not to make too rigid plans. Whatever happens, as long as we're together and I have my studio... ;)

That's one thing about moving back in the mountain though. I'd sure miss the advantages of the big city.

Took me forever to get used to the fact that whenever I walked into a Sam Ash to buy something, they had it in store. Spending the first 2/3 of my life in smaller cities and towns, the only option was often to order - and then, only from certain brands.

I remember asking if my local music store could order Line 6 stuff in early 2K, because I wanted a POD. The guy said that they didn't carry Line 6 and that their stuff wasn't all that good, just a fad, and that I'd be much better w/ this:  an old SansAmp.

Rain...., one percussion grenade well placed will quiet the whole situation down. Hell is other people, don't let your neighbors bait you into a conflict. People here might not be as neighborly as elsewhere.

Had the opportunity to meet and talk w/ a few of them - most seem like good people - including the Hendrix-Hip Hop fan next door. I met him when we moved in. My wife told me he even asked her earlier this week if his music was bothering us. My take on it - he's just a kid and I think this is probably is the first time he lives on his own, so he's enjoying it.

As if often the case, the problem isn't really that they're mean or evil or dangerous, but just that many of them seem to forget that there's other people around. That's what's annoying - you can't just hate their guts, there's a decent human being somewhere in there... lol

That being said, growing up as a rather frail kid, and then touring in all those wonderful little towns, I've learned to smell trouble from a mile. And though I became a relatively big guy, I've kept those reflexes. I enjoy a quiet life too much.

Like, the nearest convenience store. I wouldn't let my wife walk alone around that place at night. Lots of strange folks...

There's a lot of ... street business... that goes on in Vegas at night. Some of it relating to desperate people with the gambling bug that just put themselves in the hole and are looking for a way to make it up. Being a 24 hour town, Vegas has a lot of night psychos.

Though I'm still very careful, I was actually glad when I learned that we were moving here - a small condo community w/ walls, gates, security, patrols and all.
