Hertz Sew Gud - Feat. Tom V., SteveStrummerUK and Daryl1968

Cover of J.C. Mellencamp's classic song. Tom made it his own, especially since I sprung it on him at the "Wild Night" session and he had no rehearsal to speak of. So it is what it is.  Special thanks to SteveStrummerUK for the fine main guitar work and to Daryl1968 for the backing vocals.

The bass is Bapu, natch ;-)

The drums (EZDrummer Metal Machine), organ (Kontakt) and acoustic guitar (RealGuitar) are MIDI.

Mix and squashed (according to Mooch) by Bapu

That song was done entirely in X2 (Bapu, SteveStrummerUK and Daryl1968 all own X2). Tom records in Bapu's studio.

@Lynn - Tom (and his brother, another good singer) will be back in the studio soon for another collab with some CH regulars as well.

    Hey, Eduardo,

You and the boys did a killer job on this very cool cover!

Everybody's performances were excellent, and the mix sounds dynamite.  Great stuff, three thumbs up, brother Bapsi!

You guys seem to be having way to much fun with X2 and your toys.

When I go upstairs anyone would think that X2 is unusable what are you guys doing so wrong.

Ahhhhh.... yes... This was one of my favorite covers to do in the club bands I played in.  Right along with Billy Joel's You May Be Right...... great tunes....

Good choice for a cover, and overall it sounds pretty good. I like Steve's guitar work a lot, it really grooves along. The drums are as stiff as a board though, they need loosening up..I think it's the double snare hits making it sound a little 'robotic'.

    Thanks mucker

It's funny though, I'm usually so finnicky (both Bapsi and Troy have now called me 'anal') about getting covers spot on note for note, but I abandoned that approach for this.

I had the TAB for two distinct rhythm guitar parts all mapped out and then recorded them both pretty faithfully, but it just didn't seem to work. I did a swift bit of rearranging and decided to record only one track. After faffing about and trying to comp a few bits together, I found the only way I could really drop into the groove so to speak was to actually do it all in one take. Which is what you hear!

OK, who is Tom V?  Do I know him by his username?  Nice job on this.  Best bass tone for Ed that I've heard for awhile.  Steve, NICE GITS!  Great sound.  I'm assuming Tom V is doing vocals?  Daryl is holding his own without the current Mrs.   LOL!

    OK, who is Tom V?
Tom V. is not a SONAR user. Tom and I were in a band about 30 years ago. He lives near me now and due to health issues is unable to do much musically so I am doing as many covers I can with him to give him any musical joy I'm able to.

It was fun to do. Tom did a good job considering he never had a chance to practice it, nor had he ever sang the song live either.

Loved the bass and the guitar sounds great too!  :)

fantastic version dudes!  I like the guitar arrangement!   bass sounds kickin!

the vocal's not clippnig, the pre or compressor was saturated (like I had done on that part on the blues tune).

    other than that it's great!

    Zactly,

    The Beagle has golden ears.

It was only after I recorded the track and was editing the vox that I noticed summin' was not right. I looked at the compressor and it was at 3:1 (WTH?). I usually record vocals between 1.5 to 2:1. My bad. Same on Wild Nights but in that song it doesn't show "as much" IMO.
