I Wrote This Song For You

This one is a slow, piano-based pop song. Please don't cringe too bad at that I skipped any kind of vocal tuning on the lead part. Enjoy!

I like this song for its fresh vibe.  While not perfectly polished, it stills gets the point across and is fun to listen to.  The lyrics are clever and the vocal is well done.  Nice job.

Thanks, Lynn! Yup, there's a little way to go before I can wrap a bow on it, but it's a solid foundation.

Thanks a ton Clean! I honestly didn't think of it a fun song, but more calm n solemn. Guess my intentions didn't didn't come off so prevalent in the track.

Thankya, MC! Jes fer yew!! :D

    cool tune... very well done.

comments: I'd put just the slightest reverb on the vocals.... not too much because,  the in your face sound adds to the charm of it.

Maybe not pitch correcting.... it sounds like it's just a bit to low for your voice. It seems like its MIDI so a pitch change is so freaking easy..... I'd kick it up at least one whole step if not two whole steps and see how that sounds. Some of those notes sound like they are the very bottom of your range.

I could hear something like that in a film....  and ...damn that is some good pop writing.

It has an organic quality that you wont find around here (i.e. not overproduced like myself lol).

The song itself has potential and arranged and written well.

I think the lead vocal could come up couple of keys its a little down in the chest, a little better quality (groove-wise) percussion would help too I thought the drum pattern was too robotic.

    Overall, Well done

    Thanks for that, you guys!

    GH
, after reading that post, I just went to the extreme extremes of rerecording the whole song a coupla whole steps higher, and it actually worked wonders- It's really a whole new feeling to the song now! The vocals are far more crisp and clear, no need for much vocal correction... And the song takes on an even more 'happy' sound!!!

It allowed me to push the bass track down an octave (which sound pretty sexy, I might add), and additionally I could use a bit more intonation (staccato note, specifically). UNfortunately, a lot of the harmony parts were already pretty hard for me, and forced me to push to a near-falsetto range.

[EDIT] Forgot to say, I also already had a coupla song on the album in the key of C, so it's awesome that I could push one to a bit different key.

whack, I'll give a shot at finding some better samples... Anywhere I could do so? I actually played the whole rythym on my keyboard with no
Quantization, but unfortunately my keyboard ain't touch sensitive (I plan to get a TS one near Christmas), and I'm sure that attirbuted to it's robotic (or like I likes to say, 'made') sound. I'll work on that a bit.

It seems the vocal is a bit out front.   Maybe not.  No effects makes it kinda cool.  It is straight, right?  The thing is that it's a fun song to listen to.

Hey, evadianepug! I did honestly pop a little PEQ and Tempo Delay, but ultimately this was such a clean track that I thought the cleaner vocals sounds a bit better.

NOTE: THE OLD VERSION IS NOW PRIVATE ON MY SOUNDCLOUD PAGE, THERE IS NO ACCESS TO IT! The new link will be available soon!
(btw, the new recording and mix was all done today within about 4hrs.)

Bit more than it should, you're saying? Or just enough? I do know that the song seems it'd get a whipping on a high-bass system.

Well, I'm on some pretty good monitors and the bass didn't catch my attention in a bad way.  I guess you could take the vocal back just a bit and see what you think. Yes, I thought they were a bit too loud..  I'll look for the new mix.

Thanks, GH. I honestly didn't think about singing closer to my natural range until you guys mentioned it.

Thanks for coming, daryl. The backing vocals were almost a spur-of-the-moment thing to fill the void (in the original, of course).
Yup, the drum tracks was all done with my keyb and ShortCircuit2, one of my favorite VSTis.... Right up there next to DreamStation, Superwave P8, and a coupla others.
