Nutty. Apparently we were getting massive waves here too but I was snug in my little cave. Any damage around you?

    Nope,

We are at the SouthEastern  end of Lake Michigan so it had all that time from the Sandys wrap around up north to make them huge and shove right down to us.

Ya Im like everyone else,  gotta feel for those on the East coast where it hit,

Was nasty here but Ill take all the wind, rain, snow, etc... over what they are making it through.

Id like to know where all the adds on TV are kinda like when one hits overseas and they (White House) beg us to dig in and help out.  No such thing yet for our own people here in North America,  Sad!!!  But better not go there

Yeah, same here. It got pretty bad but not dangerous bad (well there was a fluke death in the city but I think that was it).

As far as the aid stuff goes I've seen a lot of talk about how New York State is actually really taken care of stuff on their own rather well. Something about all the oppressive taxes actually getting put to good use. I'm assuming after 9/11 they really ramped up the disaster relief funds. I read an article about some people freaking out in Jersey immediately after the storm but it seems they've recanted as the relief efforts are now setting in. Still brutal stuff.

Glad you made it through, buddy.

Oh and by same here I didn't mean geographically specifically but kind of. We probably got the same level of storm you all did. Lots of intense weather and power outages but nothing completely insane.

I don't know about that. There has been a woefully inadequate response to the disaster in the Rockaways, Staten Island and Coney Island. People are going nuts because all the attention has been focused on Manhattan, when they are suffering big time. To be honest it wasn't too bad here in Manahttan - we had outages and flooded subways and tunnels but nobody lost their homes and most people still had running water (in fact most of Manhattan had power too). Whereas in the outer boroughs people had their homes float away, reduced to matchsticks or burned, and thousands are still trapped in their homes without power or water and have no food. Meanwhile Bloomberg (aka Napoleon's Mini-Me) couldn't wait to start promoting the NY Marathon, which if it had gone ahead would have made some pretty tone deaf imagery - thousands of cups of water being thrown at runners, people stuffing their faces with spaghetti, huge generators powering massive media tents etc....

Yeah... insisting the marathon go on, although I appreciate the attempt at keeping peoples spirits up and showing the tenacity of NYCers, was kind of BS. Seems to me like he was trying to have his Juliani 9/11 moment for whatever other political aims he has in his sights.

And I certainly cede my thoughts and perspective to yours and those in the affected areas because all I have to go by are news reports and internet comments from folks in the area (here and elsewhere) which can obviously be misleading.

I am however quite glad to see you posting. I read your post upstairs. Seems you had quite the adventure. Cheers, dude. You've got a story you can tell for the rest of your life and fortunately no scars to prove it. ;-)

I'd love to post some pictures of the Jersey shore around here. The only problem is that there's nothing left except for piles of sand, boats, cars and lumber from what used to be houses and/or boardwalk.

Those NY pic's looked pretty nice. Hopefully in 6 to 8 months this area will look good like that.

Sea-Side Heights released a statement yesterday. Due to severe gas pipe damage causing fires and some explosions, not to mention the fact there are no roads, they hope to start allowing people back over the bridge to maybe gather a few belongings and assess their property damage in maybe six months if all goes well. (Seriously. They said 6 - 8 months. I thought I heard wrong but there were 5 of us all looking at each other with that 'NO S#*@' look.)

Oh, and Tuesday we're supposed to get hammered with a good ol' North-Eastern.
Tho not as bad they commonly slam us with 70ish MPH gusts.
That should take care of any remaining structures on the island over there.

I have a lot of friends who lost everything except the vehicle they evacuated with and what little they crammed in it before they left.

Impressive and depressing all at the same time.

I have a few staying here, and they're welcome to stay as long as needed.
I wish I could do more but when mother nature loses her temper, there isn't much to do but sit back and hope things can get rolling ASAP.

    Thanks Beepster.

Bloomberg is probably the least favorite person in New York right now. To be honest I think everyone's sick of him in general and this has brought it to a head. He's definitely no Giuliani. It all started when he defied term limits to keep himself in power. Since then it's just been one nanny-state scheme after another. One thing I've learned about Americans since I've lived here (10+ years) is that they do not like to be told how to live their lives! The man is tone deaf and openly admits that he doesn't care what his constituents think of him. I think he thinks of New Yorkers as a bunch of teenagers and he's the parent. Cannot wait for him to sling his hook!
