    That sucks!

But from that comes the saying - never drink and post

    Or was it something else?

Did you take out the battery, switch it off etc to let it dry up?

High, M... Surprisingly it doesn't seem to have gotten too far past the keys. The chicklet design kept most of it on top and when I started fervently trying to sop up any that got through with the folded edge of a paper towel there wasn't much there. It is all sticky and stinky now. The screen is all mucked up and streaky now though but that's not visible when lit.

I thought I'd have to let it sit for the night but so far it's working (typing on it now). If anything got messed up it would be the internal speakers but the grill mesh is so fine it doesn't seem that any got through there either.

Man... say what you want about Acers but this thing is pretty awesome. Just a very nerve racking moment.

And I swear I'm not drunk. It was my first beer of the night. My raggedy shirt got caught on the edge of my desk and my hand bumped into the pint glass... and of course I made things worse by trying to catch it.

    Ooof...

@Rain... Yeah. This little lappy only cost $300 and kicks butt. Still though I can't afford to replace it right now. I guess considering this is the first time I've spilled anything on it after almost a year of using it over 12 hours a day I've been pretty lucky.

pop that keyboard right out, disconnect the ribbin from the back of the keyboard, soak right in the tub/or equivevint.
at this time sop up any remaining alchohol inside the laptop itself.
remove the keyboard from being submerged in water and let dry in a warm spot for 24 hrs +.

put it back together and youll be fine.

trick is to get it in the water while its still wet with beer.
if it drys(beer) it wont work as effectively.
i clean keyboards like this all the time.
    is that strange?

    ???

um... I don't think I'm gonna do that... even if you guys are being serious. lol

It's fine which is quite surprising considering it was half a pint. I have no idea hot the beer didn't get right in between the keys. The keys themselves wer covered but not underneath. Perhaps that's one of the benefits of the chicklet key design?

Seriously next to no beer got through and looking under the keys there doesn't even seem to be much room for liquids to get inside the laptop. I'm really glad I bought this model.

You'd better unplug it, remove the battery and clean it real good with electronics cleaner and let it dry out. The beer will slowly go acidic and eat things.

I would turn it off until it was completely dry. A few years ago I spilled tea on a laptop and turned it on before it was dry. The thing shorted and smoke came out of it. Goodbye laptop.

Nah... it's all good guys. As soon as it happened I had all that stuff going through my mind but as I said there wasn't any liquid penetration. I was very VERY surprised and I'm attributing it to the keyboard design. Methinks I should keep an eye out for this model because I'm sure it's only gotten cheaper since last year.

It's like the keys are slightly concave and they held the liquid. There really was only a few drops that got through underneath them (I shined a flashlight on them to see) and where the keys actually pass through to the guts of the laptop are covered by the keys like a reverse umbrella. It's partial fluke and partial really good design.

The lappie has been running fine since I posted this. As far as the battery and MOBO, etc... not a drop got near that stuff. Just the keys and the screen.

That was a horrifying moment though. I NEED this thing. Cheers.

I spilled beer all over my old Macbook Pro once...  I dried it up..  eventually I sold that computer in a pawn shop...  ( after I properly re-installed os x ) Thing is:  If it still works 10 minutes later, than I'd say you've got a 97% chance the thing is going to work in a year.  Computers are surprisingly resilent.

I bet you, if I still had the old Epson 386..  From when. "Prodigy," was a brand new Internet portal... The thing would still turn on...

I've read that you can put electronics in a container of rice, and it acts as a really good dessicant...will dry things right up.

I hope you were able to salvage some of the beer though.

    Cheers!

This is why I use IBM Model M's, I have a cache of the things.

My current one is probably 20 years old now, countless sodas and coffee has been spilled in it, you can just open it rinse it with distilled water, dry it with compressed air and it's fine, you can't kill these things, you could probably just throw it in the dishwasher.

That, and it makes an awesome clicky sound when typing

Alcohol I think is a good cleaner that will leave no residue.

My daughter spilled Mt Dew on her lappy. The computer worked fine, but the keys were gummed up and stuck pretty badly. I used some contact cleaner to try to clean it up.... it was passable.

Lesson learned.... be very very careful with any liquids around lappys..... a desktop ... no problem.... just buy a new keyboard...

Just in case it happens to someone else or to you again... the thing to do is (as fast as you can) unplug the power, flip it over and pop the battery. Then you can clean and DRY IT without the liquid hitting.

Sorry for your misfortune. I have a harder time not tripping over cables hooked into the PC than keeping the beer out of the keyboard. All my USB ports are loose and I've glued a headphone port back together (it still works that way but sometimes needs new glue).
