dimension sfz files for aria player
hey everybody, i've been taking some of the dimension pro files that have "hidden" articulations in them and remapping them to keyswitched files that i can use in aria player. it's a bit interesting to say the least because so many of the dimension pro sfz files have undocumented things going on in them. if anybody else has been doing this, i'd like to compare notes. this is a basic remapping i'm working on right now - just barebones with samples only, no eq filters or tranpositions of samples. it's based on the Acoustic Upright f fx.sfz patch in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples\14 - Acoustic Basses pop these lines into a notepad file and then save to whatever sfz name you like in that bass sfz directory and load it into a slot in aria player. would appreciate hearing from anybody who has done or is doing this. Thanks!!! //------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- // sfz Definition File // Version 2 //acoustic upright f fx ariaks.sfz //dimension acoustic bass for aria player // //------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <control> set_cc20=127 set_cc21=127 set_cc22=127 set_cc23=127 set_cc1=127 set_cc7=127 set_cc1203=127 //EQ //<midi> // type=com.Garritan.Legacy.MIDI.Expression <global> sw_lokey=c0 sw_hikey=e0 sw_default=c0 pan_law=no_law lovel=1 hivel=127 lokey=0 hikey=127 sw_default=c0 group=0 polyphony=8 off_mode=time off_time=0.01 off_shape=0 off_curve=10 <master> //Normal playing upright <group> sw_last=c0 sw_label=Standard <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_med_D1_01.flac lokey=bb1 key=d2 hikey=d2 tune=-7 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_med_E1_01.flac key=e2 lokey=d#2 hikey=f2 tune=16 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_med_G1_01.flac key=g2 lokey=f#2 hikey=g#2 tune=16 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_med_Bb1_03.flac key=bb2 lokey=a2 hikey=b2 tune=-12 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_med_D2_03.flac key=d3 lokey=c3 tune=12 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_med_E2_02.flac key=e3 lokey=d#3 hikey=f3 tune=-14 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_med_G2_01.flac key=g3 lokey=f#3 hikey=g#3 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_med_Bb2_01.flac key=bb3 lokey=a3 tune=6 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_med_C3_01.flac key=c4 lokey=b3 hikey=d4 tune=26 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_med_E3_02.flac key=e4 lokey=d#4 hikey=f4 tune=19 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_med_G3_04.flac key=g4 lokey=f#4 hikey=g#4 tune=-10 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_med_Bb3_01.flac key=bb4 lokey=a4 tune=20 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_med_C4_02.flac key=c5 lokey=b4 tune=7 <master> //alternate upright <group> sw_last=c#0 sw_label=Alternate <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_alt_E1_01.flac key=e2 lokey=bb1 hikey=f2 tune=17 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_alt_G1_02.flac key=g2 lokey=f#2 hikey=g#2 tune=35 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_alt_Bb1_01.flac key=bb2 lokey=a2 hikey=b2 tune=12 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_alt_D2_03.flac key=d3 lokey=c3 hikey=d3 tune=27 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_alt_E2_03.flac key=e3 lokey=d#3 hikey=f3 tune=20 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_alt_G2_01.flac key=g3 lokey=f#3 hikey=c5 tune=10 <master> //slides <group> sw_last=d0 sw_label=Slides Down <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_sld_G1_14.flac lokey=bb1 hikey=g2 key=g2 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_sld_Bb2_08.flac lokey=g#2 hikey=bb3 key=bb2 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_sld_C2_08.flac key=c3 lokey=b3 hikey=e3 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_sld_F2_06.flac key=f3 lokey=f3 hikey=g3 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_sld_Ab3_09.flac key=ab4 lokey=ab3 hikey=d4 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_sld_Eb3_07.flac key=eb4 lokey=eb4 hikey=c5 <master> // <group> sw_last=d#0 sw_label=Slides Up <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_up_02.flac key=g1 lokey=bb1 hikey=bb2 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_up_06.flac key=g2 lokey=b2 hikey=d#3 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_up_17.flac key=b3 lokey=e3 hikey=f4 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_up_23.flac key=b4 lokey=f#4 hikey=c5 <master> // <group> sw_last=e0 sw_label=String Snaps <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_X_03.flac lokey=bb1 hikey= g2 key=f1 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_X_06.flac lokey=g#2 key=a2 hikey=b2 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_X_08.flac key=c2 lokey=c2 hikey=e2 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_X_09.flac key=f2 lokey=f2 hikey=g3 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_X_12.flac key=ab3 lokey=ab3 hikey=d3 <region> sample=Acoustic Upright Bass\Acb1_X_13.flac key=eb3 lokey=eb3 hikey=c5

are you sure they are "undocumented" ? reason I ask is there is cakewalk's version of SFZ format /syntax and 1 later (stylus remix etc) uses, which has been modified.. which contains syntax that will throw DP a wobbly (and generate errors) which is why I use exs instead of chicken shed's converter

what i'm talking about are all the sfz files that are supplied with dimension and rapture, not the sfz format specification. take a look at the Acoustic Upright f fx.sfz to see what i mean. string snaps and up/down slides in addition to all of the normal bass notes. you'd never know those were there if you didn't open the file or just hit random out-of-range notes on your keyboard.

I went searching to see if the ARIA player could import DP's sfz files and found this thread. The OP has a nice gem in it for anyone that missed it. I came across the World Instruments putzing around and was curious about the ARIA player itself. Specifically, I am assuming it will import DP sfz files, but not sure if it can import raw wav files (I assume no to this one, but confirmation would be appreciated).

The sforzando player opens sfz files (of course), so it may be a better choice. It's basically a clone of Aria, sane engine, same controls, but maybe more sfz-friendly?

Not sure if this post will be any help to you , or if this is what you are asking in the first place .... here goes anyway , In the sforzando GUI in the SETTINGS tab , for the User files path : I pointed SET to my Multisamples folder ... To put it mildly , the results were very shocking in a good way Kenny

Thanks guys. I have used sforzando, and that taps into the DP files without issues. I initially started looking at GPO5, and then reading about the Instant Orchestra, it made me start wondering how capable the ARIA player is since it "appears" the IO is layered to only include possible notes of a given instrument with the ability to transform between them, etc. Making assumptions about what IO is doing, I was curious if that same concept could be used with DP programs in the ARIA player. I have collected so much DP stuff over the years that it got me wondering. Then I moved on to listen to their World Instruments and really liked the assortment that package had in it. Quick Edit: I grabbed the World Instruments and played for them a bit. The ARIA player is more complex than sforzando, but pretty much the same thing. I didn't get to delve into it too deeply before I ran out of juice, so will putz with it more in the days to come. I have only tried it in standalone mode thus far.
