Install SONAR X2 Before or After Windows 8 Upgrade
From a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit, is the best practice to install SONAR X2 and Plugins prior to running the Windows 8 Upgrade? Or would it be better to upgrade the OS prior to installing SONAR and plugins? Thanks for any help!

Standard practice for any application is to install it after an OS upgrade. I would be suspicious if an application performed better if installed before. In some cases, installing an application before an OS upgrade may appear to work where installing it after appears not to - *however* this is almost *always* a sign of mis-configuration and that the application has incompatibilities - a latent issue that you will come to regret later.

Should not matter, but I would do it afterwards.

One thought I had was if a plug-in or driver that would install under Windows 7 but might not install under Windows 8. Seems like I had read that some plugins would not install under Windows 8, but if they were installed under Windows 7 that they migrated up ok. ???

I had X2 already when I upgraded from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 8 Pro and its working fine. However, if you have the choice, I would opt to do the Windows 8 upgrade first and then install X2 (and all your other applications for that matter.)

All my plugs installed (32 and 64 bit) without issues and are working. Cheers!

I upgraded from Windows 7 pro to Windows 8 pro with clean install. So far I have not had a single problem. I installed Windows 8 the following way, Before the install. 1.Unplugged anything connected to the PC except the mouse and monitor. 2.Put the windows 8 disk in and choose the option save nothing.Windows 8 created a partition and installed without a problem. 3.After the OS was installed, I installed my Roland quad capture with the latest Windows 8 driver on the Roland web site. 4. I installed a anti virus program. 5.I opened up the clean disk option in windows and checked the box that says delete any previous install files such as a large file called Windows old. I guess some may say that I did not do a clean install if those files are still on the hard drive but the option is there to delete them so.....I fine with that. 6. I installed a program called space sniffer that analyzes the hard drive and shows the detailed information about the size of all installed programs and files.I did this to decide what I can delete to create more space on a 240 gb SSD. 7. I shorted the amount of page file. 8. I deleted any windows program that I did want and adjusted the power option for best performance. I disabled hibernation and went into the folders option to always show hidden files. 9. I then installed Sonar X2 and the latest patch fix along with all my plugins. Because of the time this took I spread this out over a few days. So far everything is working great. I am sure I left out a few more tweaks that I did but that is optional.
