Audio re-setup necessary every time I run Sonar X1

Hello, could someone help me with this? I'm running Sonar X1d on Windows 7 64 bit, using ASIO4ALL drivers (up to date) and sometimes POD Studio UX2 when I'm tracking guitars.

Every time I start Sonar X1d and load a project, I get no output unless I go to Preferences, and just click OK to exit there. Loading up the preferences menu takes about 8-10 seconds, and it may cause a dropout message to appear (even though there was no playback going on), but after it's done the first time, it opens fast.
Often after making some adjustment, like adding a software instrument, inserting a new effect plugin, or even just activating the metronome, all audio becomes garbled on playback. I need to do the Preferences trick again, sometimes twice. This is extremely annoying and slows down the workflow, disrupts my thoughts.

It's probably somehow related to the Asio drivers, but I have no idea what to do. Thanks for any help.

EDIT: Added system specs to signature.

Say no more !  your problem is in your signature, You cannot use Sonar without a proper audio interface.

It used to work without a problem even with my previous motherboard's integrated Realtek audio chip.

I've noticed that while I'm using the POD UX2, this problem doesn't occur. This does agree with what you said Cactus Music. But, is there anything I could do to fix the ASIO drivers? I don't always have the POD to work with.

$400 software does not run on $10 audio card.
Runs fine on my laptop with asio4all and onboard sound. I also have a desktop setup with an old Creative card - again, runs fine, and I don't get the problem reported by the OP, so I suspect there might be another cause than the quality of his soundcard.

Which version of Sonar are you running (32 or 64 bit)?

    Sonar Platinum 64 bit, Windows 10 64 bit, i5 4670K Haswell Processor,  4.2GHz, 8Gb RAM, Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, AMD Radeon R7 260X, 120GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD, 1000GB 7200RPM Hard Disk

fwiw that card is way more than $10 but good news is that Sonar works fine on $2 built in audio chips... sound quality is another matter

    Hi,

it seems to me that perhaps you have set as default a driver that is no longer available

#1 i am wondering why are you using asio4all driver..that is a asio wrapper around the wdm driver iirc and really should only be used when wdm doesnt work, or there is no asio driver available for your device.... remember that using asio is not necessarily better... the xfi titanium comes with its own asio drivers, again..if i recall correctly... so a) try wdm driver, then b) try the creative asio driver

#2 read the manual regarding the audio configuration and setup (up around page 1100 or so).. it may be that you have set as default a driver you are not using, and when you delete a driver, or change to a driver, iirc this is not removed from the aud.ini file. ..i have had to manually edit this file to delete an unused driver in the past.
