Plenty of threads already in the forums about Win8. I suggest you attempt to sort out your blue screen problem, can't be doing your hard drive integrity much good.. Run scandisk on your harddrive and make sure your drivers are up to date. After that next time (if) you get a bluescreen consult the event viewer and get the error messages. Cheers...

I have done a check disc and nothing Is wrong. I will network my music computer wth my edimax usb sender and get the drivers checked out. Now I am wondering if I let windows update everything ,,I hope I will not lose any of my settings . There are some 64bit updates ,but I do not know whether Windows updates are beneficial or not. They are mostly for Internet users.

IMHO, you would be safer getting the regular updates and using a good anti-virus program like MS Security Essentials, but that's entirely up to you.

a bsod is generally a hardware or driver issue.. if hardware #1 is HDD and #2 is RAM so a +1 to chkdsk, and also research RAM memory testing.. the standard memtest at boot is inadequate and i have had dead memory on two separate computers.. after that, its time to rejoin the world and update bios, all drivers and win 7.. then by all means disconnect again.

Hi Alex and Dave and Mystic Done all of the stability optionals. I think the graphics card also was an Important one. What happened In the beginnning when I purchased the computer I7, was that a blue screen kept appearing regularly and sent machine back and I think that was something to do with memory. That was a while ago. I put Sonar down for a while and decided to get my playing dexterity up to scratch and work with Sonar after that. So I do not have to cut and paste too much. This blue sreen only happened once and now have updated everything through my to my online computer to Edimax usb on music machine. HERE'S HOPING!!! All the best JOHN

I wouldn't worry about just running Windows Update and letting it do it's thing. You're not going to pick up any viruses or gremlins like that. I think this whole idea of keeping your DAW disconnected from the internet at all times is somewhat overrated. It's fine as long as you're careful and you don't start downloading a bunch of random crap from disreputable sources.

For me I let let it upgrade XP SP2 to SP3 and all hell broke loose. Nothing worked. I uninstalled SP3 and rolled back to SP2 and life was good ...

Well, hopefully you realise that the root cause of your issues cannot be sp3......there is clearly something else wrong with your system, something that is just not exhibiting itself when "life was good"

> cannot be sp3...... As a guess - antivirus needed to be disabled for installation, and a run of scandisk might help beforehand. You cannot run Windows update enough times IMHO. Glad all is moving well...

Hello Luis. Welcome to the forum. There are a lot of things that can cause drop outs. Some things to check include... --What size files are you writing? - this means are you recording at 24bit 44.1 or 24 bit 88.2? Find this out... it can make a big difference. Most of us have the ability to try to write files that are bigger than our hard drives can keep up with. This can cause drop outs. For example, for me, I can do 4 tracks at 24 bit 88.2 but when I try to go up to 8 tracks of the same, I often reduce my sample rate to 44.1 to be sure I don't get drop outs (8 tracks of 44.1 writes the identical amount of data as 4 tracks of 88.2). --Check your driver settings. Most of us use the ASIO setting. Make sure you have your latest drivers for your device. --Check the buffer size for your device. For my device, buffer size might cause crackles if set too low, but it doesn't normally cause drop outs. --Check Deferred Procedure Call Latency. Some computers have drivers that make it hard to record. http://www.thesycon.de/eng/latency_check.shtml Check to see if you have driver issues. If you do, it's not the end of the world. For me, I disable my video adapter and my wifi card and my battery ACPI Compliant Control before recording and I have no problems. Other things can impact you as well, like virus scanners. I usually add Sonar to the exceptions list for scanners to be sure that it isn't scanning while I record. I know my music isn't a virus. :-) You should be patient, but persistent in getting it to work. I have other methods of recording the wav files, and so I didn't bother recording directly into the computer for years. I would just mix with Sonar. I realize now that I could have been recording directly to the computer years sooner than I did. (I finally started getting it to work when I joined the forum... thanks everyone!)

Luis it's clearly not the same issue as you describe it. I suggest you follow everything in this thread and if you cannot find a solution start a brand new thread. Cheers.
