The Sunday Report...
Yup...still at work (and will be all week) on these last projects before Turkey Day and I've discovered even more X2 shennanigans. Although I hate to use this word...Randomly X2 will just start distorting "random" tracks. I'll be recording and editing as per usual when I'll just start hearing some zitzing and breakup somewhere in the project. I can go track be track and isolate the one or more tracks that are suddenly distorting but the only way to stop it is to shut X2 down and reopen it. Then, at least for awhile, the distortion goes away. I'm also having some craziness in Kontakt 5. Quite often inside K5's gui when I add a new instrument and set it's midi channel and output I'm able, as I should be, to highlight the appropriate track in X2 and play said instrument with my controller. The funny thing is that no matter how I reset the routing inside K5 I can only trigger the first instrument in the multi with the little keyboard gui in K5...sometimes. Most times it works fine. Go figure. I recently bought Groove3s X2 explained and that has helped me learn some of the "new ways" of X2. But really working it hard this past week or so I'm gonna have to say that at least for me (with all the PRV troubles I'veYup had, missing cursors and now random distortion) X2 is not quite ready for prime time. Pity, cause I quite like it. Geeze Louise I can't even post into the forum without weirdness. Had to edit my post as it was scambled on initial entry. Sorry

I've had my fair share of weirdness with Native Instruments stuff and X2, not just Kontakt. I've had Reaktor synths that set their output volume to 0 every time I pressed play. And right now I have a reverb bus with a Reflektor reverb in it that keeps setting its wet level to 0, and panning itself hard left. Pretty sure I've had something similar to the keyboard problem you mention with Kontakt as well, although if I remember it was something which went away with random fiddling.

Hi Doghouse Yes I had some strange stuff when I first tried X2 - in fact I went back to X1 as we are really busy recording at the moment and to be frank stopping to sort out niggly issues with X2 was going to get in the way. Most of the issues I noticed in the few days I did try X2 exclusively, seemed to be, how can I put it, jumpy screen sort of things - nothing specific but there does seem to be a display issue - the auto zoom feature certainly seemed less then well developed! And along with some other users, I'm not totally sold on lanes in place of layers. Anyway X2 can sit to one side for the time being - I shall try again after first patch is released. Keep well Nigel

Oh Yea...I almost forgot. Quite often (as in QUITE often) X2's meters just go crazy...as in they'll just show completely redlined/peaked forever whether anything is coming through that track or not...OR...when I'm trying to put down a guitar track or vocal track, for instance, they'll show level in the inspector on the left but not the track itself. Like just now I recorded a scratch track vocal and the track meter showed nuttin honey but the wave form was recorded and displayed just fine. Sheesh.

When I first installed Sonar X2 meters were really funky for me. I had to turn off the segmented meters under preferences and all was dandy then... No promises tho...

And here's another thing...and this may not be a bug but by design...I know I can (and have) set my snap to toggle between Measure and 1 Sample using "N". But lots of times I don't want to have to hold down N to make a bunch of sample/based edits. So I'll simply "hard switch" the snap time to 1 Sample. But the first time I select my resolution as Sample and enter "1" the snap dialog reverts to 1600 samples. I then have to repeat the process and enter 1 again to get it to become 1. It's frustrating. Or am I a dimbulb? Wait...don't answer that.

I have the same inability to trigger more than the first instrument in a K5 multi. I believe this is a Native Instruments issue and not a Sonar issue. I can say that I rely heavily on NI Komplete 8 Ultimate for many of my synth tracks, and I have yet to have any sort of random distortion such as what you report experiencing. I am running with a lot of computer horsepower and also playing it safe by running my ASIO at 44.1 and 24-bit recording depth, maybe that helps a bit. I do seem to recall that some prior programs/services I had running were jacking things up a bit - I have long since gotten rid of whatever they are. Just maybe some things for you to evaluate on your system. Sorry I don't have anything more in the way of a 'fix'. Bob Bone

(with all the PRV troubles I'veYup had, missing cursors and now random distortion) I spotted your PRV problems mention like a hawk, because I've been dealing with that also. I think I've nailed it down though. The PRV starts acting crazy, and may even cause a crash, if you have a midi PGM change somewhere within in a midi track. If you have a the PRV open and set to the same track as one that shows a PGM change, and you either directly move the now pointer to where the PGM change is, or you scroll the PRV near enough it, you start getting a weird refresh and cursor trail in the PRV. If you close the PRV when this happens, and reopen it, you'll see all black. Anyway, whenever you see this strangeness in the PRV window, be sure to 'save' your project immediately - you're about to bomb. I've been pulling my hair out and doubting my sanity, but I'm now able to demonstrate and replicate it every time. If I have time tomorrow, I'm gonna do a video screencap and post it on you-tube just to demonstrate the issue.

Hi Ludwig As I said I loaded up and used X2 for a couple of days, then thought better of it and went back to X1 - far too busy making music to worry about software issues! As a matter of interest, listened to some of your stuff - did you use Sonar for most of this? And can I ask why you choose Sonar - there are very few people in SA who have and use it from my experience - in fact in Cape Town I don't know of anyone else. Keep ell Nigel

Hi Nigel, yes, it's been Sonar since Cakewalk 3.4! :O) I choose Sonar because it works the way I like things to work and I don't like any of the other DAWs. I own PT9 Native for live recording stability reasons (concerts etc), but I see no reason to switch other than peer pressure from those "who KNOW" :O) - Normally the same guys who spend fortunes on boutique cables etc! The whole "Superman vs Batman" thing is SO missing the point of making great music. No one gives a rats ass what a Grammy-winning engineer or producer uses, and normally neither do they. Their DAW did not make the music, they did. These discussions are normally found in the forums filled with guys who have no work - I'm sure you know what I mean :O) Hehehe.

Frozen meters are what makes me work in X1 still. I gave it an hour and fiddled with it, then had to actually get stuff done and went back to what worked.
