Working on the music room today

Got to thinking about Bub and his project.

My wife and daughter have complained about the volume as well coming from the cave.

So anyway I started finishing up the mud work, getting ready to paint and trim out the door.  I decided to move the DAW and monitors off of the studded wall an adjacent wall that is longer and concrete.  Really dropped the levels upstairs and totally changed the acoustics in the room.  I think its a good change but I dont have ARC or anything to check it and I DONT trust my ears

Gonna finish it up and get the rest of the sound treatment in place and maybe pick up ARC or something to help me out a bit.  Hopefully it will really help with making things sound better.

Did you use Roxall and vapor barrier in the ceiling? That makes a huge difference. I put two layers of Roxall between the joists in my current space, a layer of vapor barrier straight on the joists then when I put in the wood tracks to attach my acoustic tiles to I put a second layer of vapor barrier. People upstairs apparently can hear me at all unless I completely blast the tunes which I never do anymore and I only hear them when they are stopping around directly above me.

And if you already have the ceiling finished you could create a baffle and hang it directly over top your workstation to dampen some of the sound. Cheers.

Well,... The studded wall probably resonates-vibrates a lot more than the concrete wall. Upstairs anyway, since the floor joists contact the studded wall. It becomes a big, muddy, plate speaker. lol. But now that you have the concrete wall behind your monitors, you have another problem downstairs. Reflections at the desk where the monitors are. You'll need to pad the wall behind the monitors and desk.

I REALLY need to do that. I have been putting it off and the longer I put it off the easier it is to just put another box or bag of something in there. I have way too many books and they have been taking over in there too, too many amps. Two big Jordan 2x15 combos... gramas rocking chair. I know if I don't get a handle on it soon it will be too late. My daughter who moved to Germany has taken over our walk-in attic with stuff she left... it gets overwhelming... but I REALLY need to do it if I can get time. Three doctor appts this week, got to go to an exihibition to see my grand daughter Saturday AM, then drive 250 miles to my parents house (it seems my older sister brought roaches into their home and somehow it is my responsibility to get rd of them.. I don't mind but somehow it "bugs me")... then bak in time for Thanksgiving.
    Maybe then... maybe.

I am glad you gt some work done on yours! I truly am... mine really bothers me. Everytime I think about it I feel like I need a xanax or a drink.

I agree with Kev, I want to see some pics!!!
