eko-Got to leave you now

Hi all This is my first demo posting on this dynamic Forum. The song came by of it own in a strange way when I tested my new SM58 and how it could sound with an acoustic guitar. This is a pre-mix before the mastering - so all could be changed - any comments on everything is welcome http://soundcloud.com/egon1/gottoleave5

Very nice.  May I suggest bringing up the volume on the vocal just a hair early in the song.  Other than that, great job.

The song is terrific, as are the performances.  It's amazing how many uses one can get from a Shure SM58, and this works well for the acoustic.  I like your lyrics, and I, too, would like to hear them turned up because you have a good voice.  I was wondering when you would show your stuff, and it was worth the wait!

    All the best,

I use severel effects on the voice but the one who sticks out most is probebly Stereo Touch that gives a whirling sound. Thnx for listening notnat

This is great!  Bit of a Stephen Stills sound.  Love the hand drum (what is that exactly?)

Don't you love how almost anything can be an inspiration? Very nice impromptu. Enjoyed it.

The congas are from EZ-Latino played with the keys. foxwolfen: Don't you love how almost anything can be an inspiration? Very nice impromptu. Enjoyed it. Thnx foxw :) I had to look up "impromtu" now that I know what it means - I agree I was really surprised how well it turned out.

I have a Beta 58A, and that series of mics are very good dynamic mics, especially for that price.

Was this just an experiment?.. I mean do you have a condenser mic?  Most condensers will work much better on acoustics, but sometimes vocals through that Shure line of dynamic mics works very well.  That's what I started out recording on.

Cool tune, I like the vocal work!

No I got an B1 condensastor allso but well I don't really got on the termes with it. Now I have got a NT1 and a PRE 73 that would have made another sound anyway it was fun to see how the SM58 worked on this. I think it worked out well.
    Thnx Darylcrawle fo your opinon

Good looking wav, and bongos vs. Congas! :-)

(I put on my dark shades and began snapping my fingers)

Especially w/the Hammond. Strong retro vibe. But I like retro?

Ahhh, and the analog synth on the break to bolster the now billowing clouds of "smoke" rising through this musical journey.

    I like the vocal, but I would put it out there a little more? I found that as I listened to the song, I was hearing it more as an instrument? And my philosophy is that the song should support the singer, who supports "the message." i.e., It finished, but I couldn't tell you what it was called, or what it was about? One of my goals as a song writer is to be able to play a song for someone who's never heard it, and then they say;

    1. I like it/love it.

    2. I ask them what it was called? And they tell me (based on the hook)

    3. I ask them what it was about, and they give me their impression.

Listening again. I would treat that acoustic, and widen it. Make sure it has a High Pass, and use a compressor, I really like PSP Warmer for acoustic guitar with the "Clean guitar" setting...

But I would make a hole in the middle for the vox? i.e., either pan that acoustic < or > or widen it so it's not competing in the middle. Then take that organ and put it 30-60% < or >

Keep the bass up the gut, but give it some more definition with saturation, compression and EQ, and either pan or widen the synth(s) again, it's really all about making holes? And helping things "sit" in the mix? Without fighting with other things... And by no means am I "that guy?" There are people here who are true masters at it... I used to really really really suck at it? Now I hope I only suck at it usually, but sometimes am "OK at it?

I like your song, your recording/production can improve, but that's a good thing?
