Hi Zo!
I could replicate your figures for the VS-700 (see below). Identical numbers despite different PCs, not quite what I had expected. I had thought USB latency would also play a role ....
format = buffer size : buffer latency : round trip (in:out)
VS-700
48 : 1.1 : 8.7 (4.4 : 4.3)
64 : 1.5 : 9.4 (5.1 : 4.3)
96 : 2.2 : 11.9 (5.6 : 6.3)
128 : 2.9 : 18.3 (7.0 : 11.3)
256 : 5.8 : 28.9 (11.8 : 17.1)
Very interesting, though, is that the Octa-Capture reports almost identical figures
Octa-Capture
48 : 1.1 : 8.7 (5.6 : 3.1)
64 : 1.5 : 9.5 (6.0 : 3.4)
96 : 2.2 : 12.0 (6.7 : 5.2)
128 : 2.9 : 18.4 (7.5 : 10.9)
256 : 5.8 : 28.9 (10.4 : 18.6)
Furthermore, there is no difference if VS-700 and OctaCapture are synced (VS EXPAND) or VS-700 is by itself ... which is what I don't quite understand because the expanded mode definitely puts more strain on the system.
However, with the power of the new DAW I can run at buffer sizes of 48 (for tracking w/out too many plugs) and large projects at 64 - 96 which gives me a nice short round trip of 9 - 12 ms
