Covert MIDI to audio

Hi everyone.

Fairly new to this forum.

I cant see a specific thread for my question so I thought i would start a new one for this.

I have looked all over the help menus and the internet / you tube for a specific answer to how to convert MIDI to audio.  Alot of places tell you how to but I still could'nt do it.

then I stumbled across a method which I thought had worked and was wondering if someone could confirm I have indeed converted MIDI to audio.

What I have done is freeze the MIDI track so it produces an audio signal.  Then I created a new audio track and copied the audio signal across to the audio track.

I deleted the MIDI track and the software synth and the audio signal played back perfectly.

Does this sound correct?

Thanks.

    Just an update.

When I tried to re open the session after saving the audio is not recognised and has therefore not saved.

Search 'Bounce to Audio' in the Help files.
Freezing a soft synth track temporarily bounces the audio from the synth.
Bouncing permanently renders the soft synth to audio. Then you can delete the synth and archive the MIDI track if desired.

    That was a great help.

I did find under help about converting midi to audio on cakewalks site and tried what they said but it did not work. After I assigned the inputs and outputs correctly a signal would show up on the midi and audio tracks but there was no red arm button.

But bouncing has worked so I shall do it this way from now on.

This forum is a blessing as I probably would still be trying to figure out how concert midi to audio.

I do think its funny that somethings seem quite hard to figure out for new users when I think DAWS could have simpler ways of doing things.  Like there could just be a button that says "convert to audio" and its done.  Surely thats possible?

It is fun trying to figure things out but I have read numorous threads where people get stuck after seeming to try everything and then only find the answer out form asking people like yourself.

    Thanks for the help.

You didn't mention which Cakewalk program you're using, but I think the newer ones (Music Creator 6, X1 [all versions]) do have a button to convert MIDI to audio.
