LAME in SONAR X2/64 ?
Still working on setting up my new DAW. I've always used the LAME plug-in in the past and wonder if it works okay with X2/64. Or does X2 offer something that makes LAME unnecessary. Still learning the ropes... Thanks.

Sorry to be dim, but is that the LAME MP3 encoder? If so, you can buy an MP3 liscence from Cakewalk for £15. Not sure what it is in $.

<dmn> That's something I forgot about on the new DAW... I haven't mixed anything to mp3 there so I need to see if I can re-enable the encoder that long ago came with Pro Audio (was it seven?)... Another journey into the past to bring me back to my future! Has anyone done this? Does that Lame encoder work in 64bit windows? Thanks for the reminder! Keni

Well, in that case, I use Voxengo SPAN all the time in X2 x64 all the time, no problems so far. Know what you mean about long day. It's 1.45a.m. here, and I've still some work to do.

@Keni I got Pro Audio 9 as well and am wondering the same thing. I always used it before, but couldn't seem to find the way to do it in X1 or X2. Anybody know?

d/l the 64bit version of Voxengo SPAN. http://www.voxengo.com/product/span/ Keni/digimidi - you may need to contact tech support to unlock the mp3 encoder in 64bit SONAR. That is what I did, they emailed me an unlock program. The ProAudio disk is no longer used.

Weird... I just tried exporting a project as an MP3 and it worked. I don't believe I installed the encoder or anything (unless it was hidden in the installation somewhere).

Mp3 is in the export type dropdown, in the Export dialog. SONAR comes with a 30 day trial license. There is a one-time fee, currently $19 to activate the mp3 encoder.

I use to do something similar, but recently have had to send people test/practice tracks via email, and stumped up the fifteen quid for licence. It's so much easier now.

I just did a clean install of Win8 and X2 64-bit last week, and I get Lame 3.97 when I export mp3, so I'm assuming X2 comes with Lame. Seems to work fine.

Dont' forget that if you previously had the 32 bit version of SONAR and were using the Cakewalk mp3 encoder then you will need to get a download link for the 64 bit version. You can get it by sending a link request to customer support.

Yeah, it's possible Lame may have come with another program I just installed, although the only one I can think of is Vegas. I have the Fraunhofer encoder license from CW Pro Audio 9 if I need it, but Lame does a decent job and it's open source.

Is there any downside to using LAME apart from the added step of exporting to wave first? I'm finding it hard to justify paying Cakewalk $15 just so's I can export to MP3 straight from Sonar.

No extra steps needed to export. Same as working with Fraunhofer.
