sfz <effect> opcodes
I've been googling and googling this but can't seem to find a decent comprehensive guide on the <effects> opcodes for the sfz format. I've got the strings for sympathetic resonance emulation and the tdfir for convolution reverb working in dim pro and rapture, but i'd like to know what other effects types are available. anybody know?? thanx, swamp

But even when you get a list of the "official" opcodes in the SFZ language, you do not know which of the opcodes are supported by your synth. It would seem to be easy enough to publish a list of the opcodes supported in Cakewalk synths in their various versions, but I have not found such a list. My impression is that SFZ is more or less dead at this point, somewhat like CAL, a good idea that has fallen off the tracks at the end of the line.

i'm starting to get the same feeling. with all the stuff around cakewalk synths that are buggy that haven't been fixed in years, i'm starting to feel as though their synth development is not a priority. session drummer 3 really should have been way way above and beyond but it's just kinda mediocre unfortunately. good news is that garritan is using sfz formats now and they just got gobbled up by make music so there might be some developments there. oh well, just set up some scripting in kontakt i guess. i do love the sympathetic resonance effect though! works wonders on existing patches for rapture and dimension pro!

there are 2 versions of SFZ remember, cakewalks one and one others have used / adopted and added to .. the dev zone bit of here has the syntax of the commands , but if you try to use the newer syntax thats used elsewhere, it'll generate errors in the cakewalk stuff .e.g. DP think camel's alchemy uses sfz and err there is sylus remix perhaps , don't own either

oh man i've found at least 5 different versions... aria player, sfz v1, sfz v2, alchemy, linuxsampler. it's funny because in an old post renee said all the cw synths had been updated to the v2 specification, cw never posted that revision in the dev zone. don't know last time i saw any updates there, really.

The Cakewalk synthesizers book is well worth the price for the opcode listings alone. There are dozens of <effect> types - just about anything you can think of - and not all types are supported in every synth. With a knowledge of the basics, though, it's possible to create your own <effect> with combined opcodes: Bigass Bandpass. As for online examples, check the Instruments forum history. .sfz guru Chad has been posting a lot of .sfz examples (and samples) for years now. He also hosts some .sfz collections at PatchArena (I think I have some crazy FlexLFO stuff there myself). We had some end up in the Universal 120 expansion pack, too. There is good information out there to reverse-engineer, but it's scattered. Rene posted some choice nuggets online in the past as well. garritan is using sfz formats now and they just got gobbled up by make music so there might be some developments there. It'll be interesting to see that play out. It's a very well-thought out format that hasn't been fully supported pushed like it should by the "powers-that-be".

I myself have been looking for opcodes that have to do with chorus, reverb, and other effects, but especially portamento time and portamento control. Something like what you'd find in General MIDI specifications. Isn't there a way that SFZ opcodes, especially those that work with Aria Sforzando can be implemented to the standard MIDI CC values? If so, how would I do this?

There's some good reading at the Plogue forum. I'm pretty ignorant of sfz, but my guess would be that it doesn't address portamento, chorus and reverb because MIDI CC's have already been designated for those functions (84 for portamento, 93 for chorus, 91 for reverb).
 All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I've already tried CC84 for Portamento Control, putting it within a .sfz file in Notepad, but apparently, when I put the same Controller in a MIDI Track in Sonar, I don't hear any change. I put the following in the .sfz file. <control> set_cc5=0 label_cc5=portamento_time set_cc84=0 label_cc84=portamento_control <group> locc5=0 hicc5=127 locc84=0 hicc84=127 Is there something I'm forgetting? Perhaps I'm not doing something quite right?
