Help with AXE FX II with X-1

Recently upgraded my old XP box (yes very late to the party) to a Widows 7 64 bit desk top, moved from a traditional sound card to USB audio

I have been trying several options for an interface:

1. PreSonus Audio Box 22VSL
2. My old Line 6 UX 2
3. Axe FX II

MY CORE ISSUE:
I would like to take advantage of the USB direct recording option feature of my Axe FX. I have tried the things I am capable of including, selecting different input and output devises, changing bit rates, and latency parameters. However so far I’ve had no luck selecting the Axe FX as my input device and the other interface(s) as my output devices. ASIO doesn’t allow this selection. Basically any time I have the Axe FX selected as my input/output device, X-1 will not run.

OPTIONS I HAVE TRIED:
Both the 22VSL and the UX 2 seem to work fine stand alone. The Axe FX II does works great stand alone as long as I start a new project (select the Axe FX II in prefs). However previous projects will not run with the Axe FX selected as my sound card.

With that I have reached the point of deciding the use of the Audio Box as my USB interface and running the AX FX through the analog inputs.

Full disclosure,

I have been playing and recording for more than 40 years. While I record and play now for personal enjoyment I still strive for the best of what I get from my gear, my tone, and my creativity. I must admit my computer skills have a lot to be desired. For that reason I'm hoping to tap into some of the expertise of the forum for suggestions and direction.

Note,
In addition to the hardware and software listed above:
My main box is a consumer level HP with 8 gigs of RAM Windows 7, 64 bit

I don't have an Axe FX so I can't answer specifically, but in general ASIO only works with a single device. Manufacturers may write drivers so you can have two or three of the same device, but you can't mix & match devices from different manufacturers. If you want to do that you'll need to use WDM or some other driver model.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say Sonar doesn't run when you select Axe FX drivers. It becomes unresponsive or there is no sound? If there is no sound, have you changed the outputs to be Axe FX outs?

the axeFx works quite well as an audio device and using the USB to track a DI and effected track is invaluable (you'll find the DI track is fairly low input--as it's set for reamping back to the AxeFx--but it works just fine)...but the issue you have may be that the axe's audio drivers are locked at 48--you have no other option.  if you're older projects are 44 (or anything else), the axe won't work for you.

(it'd be great if sonar had the capability to update an entire project with a click of a button...(i.e. just resample all the audio in a project.)  unless someone who knows sonar better than me chimes in: you'll have to import each track from an older project to a new one set for the axe.)

You are correct Pt. My axeFGXII is fine with new projects but the locked 48 is a killer. But, as a 15+ year user of Sonar i would choose my axe everytime if it came to a choice. Glad it doesn't. I am very happy using my Layla3G as my interface.
Do I wish the axe could go different rates, I sure do.
