EQ works bypassed but not engaged

I just got a NADY 215 stereo 15 band EQ and channel 1 works when the bypass button is both pressed and not pressed. No sound comes from channel 2 unless the EQ is bypassed. Is this an easy fix? What could be causing this? THIS IS IT: http://www.amazon.com/Nad...qualizer/dp/B000BTM0YO MANUAL: http://www.nady.com/manuals/audio/geq.pdf

Have you done the obvious testing and checked all connections, swapped your cables around etc?

If the problem persists and you've just bought it, send it back.

Bristol, thanks for replying. I custom made the cables for the unit and they work when used with other things. Again, that channel works as long as I hit BYPASS and don't go through the EQ. It is a Craigslist purchase so I can't send it back. It's 2 channel and the other side works great. I can't cry too much, I got this and an Alesis 3630 for $75 so I STILL got a steal! Hah hah. I was just wondering if there was a fixer guru out there that could tell me what to check and/or fix - I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron! ;)

It's likely the VCAs used for internal switching that are faulty. If you can obtain the technical documentation it probably is something that's easy to fix if you're not afraid to desolder ICs. It could even be as simple as a shorted capacitor. I've repaired console channel modules that had similar problems, e.g. mute/solo not working or channels heard on busses that they weren't routed to. In every case it was either a faulty VCA or control voltage.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    Thanks Bit!

Well, I think my biggest obstacle here is in the diagnosis and I'm like one of those "jack of all trades & master of none" kind of people. I could cause more harm than good.

I may take a peek inside to see if any connections are loose, but that will probably be a useless venture since the problem will not be easily identifiable visually.

I may want to rest on my laurels that Channel 1 is working and it is good enough for now since I'm running keys through it, and $75 got me that Alesis 3630 and 1 good EQ channel! Hah hah.

    Happy Thanksgiving by the way.
