SAW doc

Anyone see the SAW history doc last night?  I was coping ok, got a bit sad during the Mel & Kim section, but loved the top-tucked-in-to-jeans look everyone sported.  Then they spoiled it all by plaing the Reynolds 'Jack' song and I have it stuck in my head, even to the point of nearly trying to emulate the moves.

Tiny control rooms at PWL though.  I always imagined much grander fare.

I steered well clear of it...

One of the BBC ones - probably BBC4 as they tend to run interesting stuff that doesn't rely on some new talent or escaping from a jungle.

I was working in the industry at the time, and remember how we hated the Hit Factory sound and methodology - but looking back now it really was a fantastic model.

I never realized most of those songs came from the same people.  I remember thinking about disecting some of the most popular songs to see if I could figure out why that particular song was so much better than others that seemed to be similar...

Without even watching, I'm betting that was Pete Burns from Dead or Alive

Just finished watching.  Yep, it was Pete Burns - yikes!

What I thought was interesting was hearing how they went down a different path from where they started.  Dead or Alive sounds nothing like the smoother, Motown-ish, sound they ended with.  There was a definite switch in their songs from tunes I used to like to "bleh" when they began targeting a younger audience.
