Bleed

It's been a good while since I posted any songs here following a bit of a topsy-turvy year.

I was inspired by Adele's title track for Skyfall (so much so that it meant I wasn't really concentrating on the next 10 mins of the movie), and wanted to try something similar.  Hence the hook here in 'Bleed'.

For vocals, I found the amazing Sanna Hartfield who very graciously posts a capella's for folk like me who have no access to singers, or even a room in which to record.

Mix is still in progress, and I haven't done any fader rides yet.  Need to take a couple of days away from the track first.

Enjoy!

Very nice -- Sanna has an expressive voice and you did a great job with the reverb effects on her voice.  The whole mix has a very warm pleasant sound to it.  A thought -- at the bridge part -- 1:35m - it would be interesting to have the whole thing open up, so to speak, into a bigger sound -- lush vocal harmony pads and more instrumentation -- then after that, fall back into the sparser verse sound.  That's how I'd approach it.

Nice song, beautiful vocal.  The mix sounds good right now, so there's not much to worry about in that regard.  As Allan said, you can play with the arrangement all you want because the building blocks are in place.  I guess I'm going to have to see that movie.

    All the best,

Thanks all.  I'm going to revisit that bridge (and outro section using the same progression).  It does need a lift to get some more dynamic in there.  Also, the relative balance needs modifying in those sections, which may be part of the reason.

Finally, since I moved house, I haven't even set any speakers up in my room.  Plus I have a new pair of headphones to replace my old Sennheisers which fell apart after 10 years.  All of which means I'm mixing on a pair of headphones which I don't know well at all!
