Lars Ulrich ≈ John Lithgow

It's true. They are almost the same person, although obviously Lithgow is the better drummer.

I wonder who repulses me out the most - Lithgow, aka the Trinity killer in Dexter, or that hyperactive midget w/ the drum sticks in his hands...

EDIT - After reflexion, Lithgow is only a fictional criminal whereas Ulrich is responsible for that dreadful snare drum sound on St-Anger, which should actually be considered a felony.

Utterly disgusting! I agree, hang him from the highest tree.
Actually, the last 3 albums had some of the worst sounding drums I've ever had my ears bleed to.
Does he actually sit back, hear that sound and say 'yeah, that's what I'm looking for'?
Or does he just run in, throw down some tracks and leave without giving a listening to?

Don't listen to Metallica = problem solved!! I have no idea what Lithgow has to do with any of it. I better do some Google. Oh... I remember now... I watched part of the first season, maybe part of the second of Dexter... I may go back and watch it all again and catch up. I have a lot of things I could watch if I ever decide to waste more time. I've never seen an episode of ANY zombie show, never seen one episode of any Housewives show, no episodes of Breaking Bad, not one episode of The Sopranos... etc, etc. I don't miss Justified though... so all is not LOST. Most really popular shows... I don't like, and they seem to cancel the shows I do like... it is a hard job but being out of step but someone has to do it!

I still remember when someone did a cover of St. Anger and used a metal folding chair and a pen to make the snare sound.  It was actually better than the original!  LOL

Having never heard St Anger I just checked it out on YouTube. Holy crap, that stinks. Yes the snare is horrible (they're talking about in the comments) but the production in general is bad too. The guitars sound awful. I much prefer the production on their first album, they sounded 100x better!

The thing w/ St. Anger i that you have a band at the crossroads.

The Black album had been immensely successful, even though they alienated some old fans. Then Load and ReLoad were even more of a big let down for those fans - though I did appreciate the fact that they were trying to evolve instead of just pretending to be a bunch of uncompromising angry teenagers.

Then all the Napster crap and Newstaed leaving... I think they'd lost it.

St.Anger was an eminently crucial album, one of the most important in their history. But one that should have remained in the vaults. They had to hit that rock bottom.

As horrible and uninspired as the album is, the documentary chronicling the recording process and all that happened at that time, namely, Some Kind of Monster is a must see, IMHO. It's a look inside a totally dysfunctional band who actually has to hire a psychologist to learn to communicate again. It's appalling but really worth checking out.

The following album, Death Magnetic, as much as the sound irks me, is one of their best effort in years. But then, I never was into Metallica for production values. Even though the Bob Rock-era stuff sounded great.

If you watch the making of Death Magnetic and compare it to Some Kind of Monster, you see a band that's been to hell and back, and one of them put it, needed each other more than they hated each other, and decided to focus on that. It looks like they're having fun again.

They threw Dave Mustaine, an awesome guitarist, out for being a drunk. I'd rather have an awesome drunk drummer than a rhythmless dweeb like Ulrich.

Could only watch a few seconds - YouTube has a tendency to get stuck these days. Must say that a lot of the musician I know who've tried to play those games told me that being a musician can actually be a handicap.

I'd like to see John Lithgow anf John Cleese in the same movie, once. They'd make a brilliant pair as psychotic brothers. Ok...add Ulrich as the choir boy...

Last 3 would be? - I must be missing one, unless you include Lulu I only suffered 30 seconds of that one. Or the EP.
