TH2 - saving a preset, did I find a bug? (answer: no I did not, I found a user error)

OK so now that I'm done with what I was working on I can dig deeper into the new stuff in X2.  I'm playing with an old project that I did entirely in X1.  I cloned a track Guitar Rig LE and then replaced that plugin with TH2 Producer trying to sort of reproduce that sound, and I'm screwing around adding effects and so on.  Then I'm trying to save it.

Best I can tell, I should click the WRITE button in the upper-right corner of the screen, and then it gives me a search screen.  that's not really helpful, and I have not managed to save a preset yet.

To make matters worse, trying to type in that search box is impossible - if I press the letter A, it brings up the AudioSnap palette - Sonar X2 is stealing focus from the TH2 Producer plugin.  I'm running build 308 (the quick fix).

So first of all:

1.) am I trying to go to the right screen to save?
2.) is the "focus stealing" issue that makes it impossible to search a bug?  I seem to think so, but if it's a matter of "no you're doing somethign else wrong" I'll just ignore it for now.  If it's really a bug I'll report it to support (and if someone else would try it out to confirm, that would be awesome)

My system is nothing fancy, a Gigabyte mobo and an i5 2500K with 16GB of memory and a GeForce 560 graphics card, 1 SSD and 2 1TB drives.  But I'm seeing the same behavior on my laptop which is a Compal PBL21 barebones that I put my own hardware into (i5 2520M, 8GB DDR3, a 256GB SSD and a 500GB HDD in the optical bay, nvidia 540M graphics)

I don't like the way TH2 touts to do this.

The best and most reliable way to save a preset is to use the little floppy disk save icon.

Type in what you want to name the preset then click the floppy disk. All that other crap is annoying and weird.

To avoid hotkeys being activated while using search functions within plugs, browsers, etc... click the button that appears in the top right hand corner of the plugin, browser, etc... window that looks like a weird little keyboard. It's called "Give All Keystrokes" and is in the manual if you can't visualize what I'm talking about.

    Cheers.

Upper right hand corner click on “give all keystrokes to plugin” it will turn blue when enabled.

"write" yes. there are 999 banks that you can use. down at the bottom you will see a button  "write variation"

I totally never needed that button before, but I found it - the one shaped like the computer keyboard.  So thanks to both of you for that lesson. I feel a little sheepish now.

As for saving, the floppy disk icon works and it seems to be available across projects so that'll do.  I just thought maybe the plugin would have its own saving mechanism with its grid, but I guess I don't need it, strictly speaking.

    Thanks guys.

edit: did not see rabeach's reply about the Write Variation button - I just missed it because the bottom of hte plugin window goes off screen if you're running 1366x768.  Found it!

Thanks again all!  I can't believe the stupid streak I'm on tonight!

As I said I find the Write function and preset storage method of TH2 is weird and clunky. In fact the whole darned thing is weird... but it sounds awesome so I forgive them.

And as far as not knowing about the keystrokes thing I totally did the same thing before I learned about it and I've seen this come up many times on the forum so don't feel bad. There are so many little things to know it's impossible to really know them all. I've even seen the Baker's get tripped up sometimes.

Stupid computers think they're smarter than us. JERKS!
