My Guitar Rig 4 Demo is dead!

So when the demo ran out I ran the auto online registration, put in my numbers to make it LE, and all looked good.

But now when I try to use it in X2 there's no presets, amps, nothing. It does not work anymore.

So how do I get it working again?

Thanks,
Steve

You need to go to your NI store account and download/install the update stuff again. And that's not a demo version... it's technically not the full version either. It's a special Sonar version. It caused me much confusion and head scratching but that is the meat of it. Cheers.

Oh... and I'm assuming you are referring to what you got with your X1 purchase (I see that listed in your profile). If not that's what you want to use and register. Remember to always use Run As Administrator when screwing around with this type of stuff.

Right you are Beep, GR4 came with X1. Before activating it, it ran in "Demo" mode.

As you can see I haven't used it much. I've re-ran the activation service center software and it says all my products are active. Only, when I open GR4 there's no amps no presets no nuthin'!

I can download the GR4.2.2 update but that shouldn't keep GR4 from working.

I'd hate to reinstall X1 to get it to work, but if I have to, I guess.

There are similar threads where others reported that updating Guitar Rig solved this issue. You should not need to install X1 just to get Guitar Rig LE running.

No need to re-install X1, but you need to run GP4 (or, for that matter, GP5) in stand-alone mode for activation BEFORE running it as a VST in Sonar

Yup. Run As Admin for standalone (right of the bat) and download/install that update and you should be fine. It's been a long time since I did it but I seem to recall having no amps until I installed that 4.2 thingy. Good luck.

BTW reinstalling X1 or even doing a custom install just to get at GR4 will only result in the same problem. You need to update. Also if it keeps being a jerk you can call up NI and see what's up.

    So to review...

    1) Always Run As Admin while registering/updating

    2) Always use the standalone version while registering/updating

    3) Download and install ALL available GR updates in your NI store account

    Cheers

I will have to call NI when I get the chance. All the Service Center does is loop over and over again.

"Service Center was successfully updated and will restart now. OK"
And each time I click OK it goes through the process all over again.

    ???

Are you just using the built in service center thingy? Actually open your browser and navigate to their website then log into your account there to access the download. The service center is just to register. I don't think it will download update... especially an upgrade.

    Cheers.

Beeps, you are correct, Service Center is only for registration.  If there is a later version of GR that he is eligible for, he should download and install it.  It's tiny, and a quick download/install, in addition to having internal beneficial updates to it.

If you want to save logging in twice, once you get to the NI site, go to the downloads section and log in there.  If you log in on the main page, then go to downloads, it will make you log in again - silly, but that's how they built it.
That Service Center was always badly implemented.  I have had Komplete 3 all the way through my current Komplete 8 Ultimate, and is only the last couple of them that they use an online Service Center mechanism.  It used to install Service Center anytime you updated anything, which would be many times over if you had one of the Komplete products, as each of the more than a dozen component upgrades would not care that Service Center was already on your machine.
Go to the NI site www.native-instruments.com, go to the updates, then log in, download the latest version of that component, install that component, then I think it takes you to the online service center.  If that version of GR still loops in Service Center install, then just cancel out of that portion and go to the online Service Center.  I believe if you have updated a component it may go through the activation again.

If all of that STILL does not work, and that has happened to me before once or twice with them over the years. TRIPLE check your registration info, then go to the manage account section - it used to be you could delete registrations, and then re-register them again.  If the delete registration option is on the menu choices, then as long as your registration info is good, you will be able to reactivate properly.

Last recourse - call them.  They can manually delete the registration and you can then go to Service Center online and activate.

In all of the above, run GR's activation in stand-alone run as admin mode prior to trying to use in any host, such as Sonar.

I am downloading the 300+ MB GR4.2.2 upate. This will take over 2 hrs on my connection.

    I'm guessing GR4.2.2 will overwrite GR4.

Yup. That's the one you want. The way the Sonar version of GR is... uh... handled is very weird and confusing. The initial install is just the demo but doesn't have any content. Then when you install the update it tells you it is GR 4 and you have some content but it's not actually GR4. It's a special lite version for Sonar. That screwed me up because I thought I qualified for the $80 upgrade to GR5 but I didn't. Had to call them to verify and ended up paying the full $100... then a couple weeks later it went on sale for $50. D'oh! Then I found out they were including TH2 with X2. Double d'oh!

Beeps - that purchase tale is one of great pain.  Similar stuff in probably most of our collective forum user's history.

I am disabled, and all the sales on everything everywhere on the planet all end at the end of each month, and my income does not come until the 3rd of each month, so since I never know what is coming on sale I never know how much to leave aside, and therefore sadly watch an endless parade of sales expire each month.

The NI updates are 99.99% of the time each a full overlay of the component being upgraded, so version +1 of anything will be a complete version that will simply wipe out the one before.

Same boat here. Hoping I can start making a bit of extra scratch with all this gear... which will get put right back into more gear because it'll be the only way I can afford it now. Missing deals really hurts. Like the fact I could have gotten the Production Suite and X2 for $200 cheaper if I had waited an extra month. I was trying to take solace in the fact I got the DSF strings but they ended up giving that away to everyone anyway. grrr...

Just hope all my contacts haven't cooled at this point.

OK. New version 4.2.2 installed and working.

I shouldn't get the Demo/Buy/Activate window anymore, right?

Still don't know why the original version quit working after activating it. Oh well!

Let's hope so. To be sure, click on Guitar Rig Logo above the browser. That will bring up a screen with your license info. It should say license type: Full. Click on the popup to make it go away.
