November Specials not always special.....

Sorry, bakers. I am and will be a loyal customer of cakewalk products, but due to the web comparison possibilities:(this might be of special interest for european customers) at the thomann cyberstore i find izotope ozone5 for 189 Euros instead of your special priced offer of 199 Euros. Correct me, if i am wrong yours sincerely Michael

new release: "Tango Bajo" by Asseli and Grupo Virtual feat. Nicolás Ascone (electric bass&voice); mastered by CJay, Florida.. Now ready for download at itunes, amazon, musicload and others. Enjoy!

The same for the Breverb (on the Overloud website, the full version is cheaper than the CW upgrade offer !)...

Sorry, IT WAS cheaper (117 € vs 129 €), but now the price of the full version seems to be 157 € (however, Sonar X2 PE owners have already got more than half the full version...)

$199 for Ozone 5 is the regular price at Guitar Center, Sweetwater and Amazon.

There's a price discrepancy within the Cakewalk E-Store Europe, too: by buying the ProChannel Pack Bundle, you'll end up spending € 6.50 more than if you buy them individually. Not a massive difference, sure, but kind of removes the point of bundles. It's like you're paying extra for the comfort of adding 1 item to your basket instead of 4..! Weird.

I have made these points countless times...

What Cake calls "Sonar X2 Customer Special Prices" are nothing more then
    regular current selling prices.

The only thing I will buy from the Cake store are Cake Products...
    and only when on sale.

I can ALWAYS find better prices elsewhere on anything else they sell,
but that's just me....and sometimes I can even find better prices on
    Cake things as well.

That's not correct. Yes there are some instances where pricing may be less on another store. That can happen and unfortunately we can't control it. But most of the specials up there are indeed a good value. Overloud stuff is all less expensive on our site through this promotion. I just went and checked my self. Chromaphone is also less expensive. iZotope Ozone 5 is priced the same as other vendors in the US but it doesn't cost more. Additionally, we have run specials from other industry partners with huge savings. So I don't think you are right. But of course, you are welcome to shop around for the best prices. That's the beauty of the digital age :)

I will have to agree with Andrew on this concerning the Overloud stuff. I just got the bundle because it's a good deal!

Even if I was to take CW up on all it's "special pricing" for each individual product that I got in the Overloud bundle, it would have cost me $483. And that's going to the Overloud site and getting the Vintage Keyboard Fx's plug (@ 20% off) there because you can't get it alone at the CW store.

Yeah I read this thread and then did some checking. Not a whole lot, but some. And I got the Overloud bundle through the CW eStore. I got a good deal.

I agree that the Overloud prices are indeed good.  Although I have still found better.

Chromophone is ALSO the SAME price on the AAS Webiste...NO SPECIAL THERE. INTRO OFFER.  I have the email.

All the Izotope stuff is the same as anywhere....current selling price, and is FAR LESS elsewhere.

I bought the Softube Mix Bundle from CAKE....on the inital offeriing...THAT was the lowest price it had been offered for
and it is STILL a really good price at $179 when they offer it.  THAT was money very well spent.

My statement is meant to be general Andrew - NOT ALL INCLUSIVE FOLKS....
And it is quite factual that your "SPECIAL for X2 Users ONLY" is an intentional deception,
as those things can usually be found for far LESS elsewhere, even for NON X2 NON CAKEWALK customers.

I'm not bashing Cake...I'm bashing their CRAZY marketers...and of course Andrew will defend...
    THAT'S HIS JOB!!

And I do shop around....A LOT...that's why I know if the prices are good or not..

    Again...NOT all inclusive BW....

They HAVE had some really good deals...I'm not knocking that...as I said..
the Overloud Bundle is a good one..

The Softube Mix Bundle was a good one..

But those are few and far between....but GOOD when they come...
and believe me, when they do, I jump on them!!!  I couldn't on that Bundle - no money,
but would like to have it none-the-less.

There were some INCREDIBLE SMOKIN' DEALS this year...

Cake didn't have any really...they were all pretty much standard fair. (obviously the Overloud stuff being partial exception - but NOT ALL)

They just need to knock off the "SPECIAL FOR X2 CUSTOMERS ONLY" crap...that's all I'm saying...

Just offer the stuff and put the prices up....we're not dummies....we know better...just be honest.
And if it IS a good deal...WE WILL BUY IT!!!  That is a given!

If they want to say SPECIAL PRICE...then at least MAKE IT A SPECIAL PRICE...even if it's only $1 less then what it's
being sold for elsewhere at other retailers....I mean...come'on....

Look at all the money JUST the people on this forum spent at Audio Deluxe, Plugin Discounts, Audio Midi, all these places
that had SMOKING price breaks....over the Black Friday Cyber Monday Weekend!!!

CAKE could have taken a GOOD CHUNK of that money by offering REAL discounts on their stuff...not this
DECEPTIVE crap.  No Offense Andrew...but even the PC Modules was a bit TOO LITTLE, as most of us already
    have those.

Waves even gave a FREE $100 Plugin!!  Now that's marketing GENIUS!!!  Even if you hate it...at lease you
didn't pay for it!!  And they'll get the upgrade money from those that do like it!

I'm just being real.  That's all.  It's all I know how to do...

One day they WILL figure out that I'm trying to HELP them...not HURT them!

$99 for X2 was a killer deal... Less than half for what we used to pay to upgrade.
Got all my plugs for the PC for at least half-off

I like Cakewalk's sales...just wish the 'good ones' were more frequent .

seriously cclarry- if you are going to make such strident and pointed criticisms you have to get your facts straight.

waves did not give away a $100 plug in for example. didn't you yourself say it was worth $80 about one day ago on another thread?   quote: "I mean, really, how often does a company GIVE AWAY an $80 plugin?  Gotta give 'em credit.  They're   doing the BAIT thing right.  And with all the WUP's they'll be adding...they're cementing their market share.  It's brilliant marketing, that's all I'm sayin'.... "

no shop had a better price on the overloud total bundle. not even audio deluxe.

Don't spread misinformation and then go accusing Cakewalk or whoever of "DECEPTIVE crap."

14 of the 15 specials up there are below the regular prices and are specials for SONAR X2 customers. The only one that is the same price as other retailers is Ozone 5. Some of the products you can't even buy anywhere else. I really don't know what you mean by deceptive but like I said, it's your right to shop around for the best prices. And not everyone had those ProChannel modules either, not sure where you got that data point. We work with partners to offer fair prices for a limited-time. We like to do it for our customers. We also offer free stuff through the Content Club. There's no deception going on.

Re:November Specials not always special..... 2012/11/29 20:03:55 (permalink)
That's the nature of the marketing beast I'm afraid. I see deals all the time that are advertised as 'exclusive' but in reality they aren't as they are available at a dozen other outlets for the same price. Sometimes this is because competitors lower their prices to match the deal you have offered and sometimes it is just a marketing ploy.

Either way, if the price is good, does it really matter what words are used to sell it?

Most businesses will say/do anything that are in their best interests. I support cakewalk 100%, I think they are a great company and if products become 'too cheap' because demand won't settle for anything else then we are in danger of losing future products and support because there won't be the budget to fund them.

I totally understand what the OP is saying but as Andrew said, everyone is welcome to shop around. I'm personally too lazy as I believe the cakewalk deals are priced fairly and are offered so regularly that whatever you are after generally makes an appearance.

I too thought the X2 upgrade price was fantastic given the additions. If that isn't giving their loyal customers a fantastic deal then I don't know what would constitute one.

    Peace out

For me, I was advised of huge savings at Overloud's site. Bundle there = $367. Bundle @AudioDeluxe = $311.??. Just about to pay @ AudioDeluxe, then I decided to just quickly check the Bundle @CakeStore = $299.00. Done! - Plus instant email & download links and/or instructions as always with Cake. Pays to shop around in all directions.

For me this is taking the $$$%%^

Overloud Complete Bundle - For SONAR X2 Customers (Download)
    Total UK  = £239
    Total USA = $299
Type into google right now "299 dollars to pounds" and the result is £186.38
That is a difference of £52.00.

I notice conversion from Euros to pounds and vice versa is reasonably accurate.
I've just bought the product, maybe I can be refunded at least 50 quid :-).

I think that includes Taxes which should be paid in Europe. The same with Euro (they have all prices in Euro numerically equivalent to the prices in $$$). If, by chance, you have some address outside GB/Europe and you are not professional, you can save quite some money ;)

Someone claimed on here that it does not include taxes, as I originally thought.  He was charged taxes by customs when it arrived in U.K.  I guess this is how we can download okay, but will be charged if it has to be sent over.

Brits have always had a bum deal but it is best not to moan about it too much as the thread will get huge and you'll always be in the wrong for pointing out the difference.

    > I think that includes Taxes which should be paid in Europe.

This is a myth and is not true. Electronic purchase makes it so. If I was exporting a guitar that would be a different matter, and any taxes would be paid AFTERWARDS through customs.

    > but it is best not to moan about it too much as the thread will get huge

If that costs me 50 quid so be it, oh it has! ;).
So much for free trade between nations.

    Cheers...

Everything depends on where the sale comes from it appears. This is how corporations skip tax (i.e. Starbucks/Ebay and Amazon have hardly paid anything in the UK because of this). I'm not saying Cake or Roland does this BTW, I have no idea. I'd be interested to see how the sale is broken down firstly in the UK and secondly in the USA. All assumptions and bets are off, it would be good if Cakewalk could supply the info, there's now way we can fully tell how and through what counties/address they dispatch/process the order. Until I see a full breakdown I am just assuming I'm being charged 50 quid extra, or the USA gets it 50 less.... not fair.... :) Cheers Alex
