New Tambourine and Shaker Samples worth a look!
This was just released this week, I have been looking at the wavesfactory offerings but with the intro discount this was more complete. http://noisefirm.com/product/complete-shaker-tamb/ Covers lots of options and for me was worth the $40. Code is NOSHAKER09 for 30% off, Limited time I think. Worth a look if like me you had a hole in your sample set for this type of thing.

just ordered :-) hey btw while i'm here... from the demos these sound great and can't wait to start messing with it but also do you (or anyone else reading this) know of any other packages that have loops or kits of really great bouncy hi hats and other percussion sound that sound like the kind of stuff that comes in during the chorus parts of pop songs. like "call me maybe" and "gangnam style" and all those kinds of dance/pop songs.

Polarbear you are welcome! So far i have been very pleased with it. The midi loops are a good start and I have been trying the rex loops in drop zone and it is a great additon to the samples themselves. Kev999 I think kontakt aside the loops, samples and rex files are very useful. Especially at the discounted price.

Daryl This appears to be a much more detailed and higher quality sample set than others I have seen - it sounded so good I purchased this and have just finished downloading - the library download file was 3.4GB!!! Shall install latter - I have a track waiting to try it on Nigel

daryl1968 is it me, don't they seem a tad expensive? Given the quality of the samples, the sheer number of audio loops, one-shots, and MIDI loops, the number of formats (e.g., .wav, .nki, .rx2), and the "feel" of the loops, I'd say that this is a great bargain, especially with the discount on the entire bundle. I picked this up last night and spent the evening playing with these in Kontakt and Stylus RMX. This will definitely become my go-to library for shakers. Oh, and thanks for the heads-up on this deal, Crowded One!

You can probably pick up a shaker and tambourine for around the same price and play them live. You'll pick them up in no time. I like shaking my tambo on the other side of the room, it sounds really cool recorded with a bit of distance.

Does anyone have both this set and the Nine Volt Audio one? I'm curious to how they would compare. The Nine Volt Audio sounds a bit better based on the demos, and the "tight" control really seems to make a big difference on faster parts.

Jonbouy's comment reminded me that I never replaced my old tambourine that finally got shaken to pieces after decades of use. I really need to get another one. Musician's Friend lists a whole page full of real physical tambourines, not one of which costs as much as this sample library. As a bonus, each is capable of unlimited loop patterns!

While researching tambourines, I came across this interesting document (pdf) about the instrument. It talks about the history of the tambourine (goes back about a thousand years!) and gives specifics about playing techniques, including the "7 functions of rock tambourine". It extensively analyzes the use of tambourines in Beatles, Rolling Stones and other 60's recordings (Ringo played tambourine on "Love Me Do", while the drums were done by Alan White). I am now excited to get another tambourine. Screw samples and loops.

Now I'll have to see if Musician's Friend sells timbrels, tabrets and tofs, too. What well-equipped studio would not have a couple tofs hanging on the wall?
